UNIT 11: Xx Period 2 - Part 4, 6, 7

I Objective:

1 Language focus:

- By the end of the lesson, students will be able to practise the sound of the letter

Xx and the coresponding words

- Learn and practise reading skills and sing a song

Vocabulary: review - six

Sight words: look, the, is, in, a, stop, please.

2 Skill:

- Listening, speaking, reading, writing

3 Attitude:

- Encourage Ss to use the structure more regulary

II Teaching aids:

- Book, CD, phonics cards, paper including the lyrics of the chant

III Method:

- Model-Talk-Practice, individual work, pair work, group work

- Some techniques can be used: music chairs

IV.Procedures:

2 Warm up (5’)

Activity: Stand and Sit (5’)

- T tell the students to listen for words that begin with the /ks/ sound

- T ask the students to stand up when they hear words with /ks/ sound and sit when they hear words without/ks/ sound

- Say slowly at the beginning and faster to make it more fun

- Encourage the students to give the correct answer

3 New lesson:

Activity 1 Listen Read along (10’)

- T encourage the students to point to the picture

of the word that the teacher says

4 Listen Read along

- T play the CD and ask Ss to listen to the story

- T play the CD again

- Ss listen and point to the pictures of the key

words when they hear them in the story

- T read the storyand ask Ss follow their books

- Teacher reads the printed words then let the

students look at the pictures and say the words

- Ss look at the pictures and say the words

- T ask students work in pairs One reads while the

other checks, then they change roles Or one reads

the printed words while the other looks at the

pictures and says the words

- Ss to work in pairs

* Draw it

- T divides Ss into 2 teams, A and B Ask two

students from each team to come to the board

- T names a vocabulary item In 30 seconds, the 2

students have to finish drawing it

- Ss who finishes first wins a point

Activity 2: Listen and tick ü (10’)

- Point to the lettersand elicit the sounds for each

- Ask the Ss to listen and tick the sounds they

hear

- Ss listen and tick the sounds they hear

- Go around the class providing any necessary

help

* Which One Is Missing? Game

- Put the phonics cards face up on the table/stick

them on the board

- Give the students 10 seconds to look at the cards

- Have students close their eyes and then you take

away one cards

- Tell the students to open their eyes and name the

missing cards

7 Listen, point, repeat Colour the pictures of the

words that start with x sound Say the x words

(10’)

- Show the students the six phonics card Point to

it and say: /ks/ - six Ask them to repeat.

- Mime playing the violin and say: /ks/ - six

Look, the ox is in a box!

Stop the ox, please?

Look, the ox is in a box is in a taxi!

Stop the taxi, please!

6 Listen and tick.

7 Listen, point and repeat Colour the pictures of the

words that start with the x

sound Say the x words.

- Allow the students some time to colour in the

pictures of words start with the /x/ sound

- Go around the class providing any necessary

- Ask the students to take out their notebooks

- Ask them to choose one word the draw the letter

and the picture in their notebooks

- Tell them to colour the letter and the picture

- The first three students who finish will show

their pictures to the class
