UNIT 1: FRIENDSHIP

Aims: - provide vocabulary relating to physical characteristics

-describe physical characteristics and discuss personalities

Objectives: By the end of the lesson, Ss will be able to :

- Talk about a famous friend

- Enhance the amount of vocabulary concerning to appearance and the shape of man

Anticipated problem: Some Ss may be too shy to share ideas with others.

Solution: Teacher encourages Ss to talk and he can give them extra marks as reward

Teaching aids and materials: books, pictures, blackboard, cards

I Warm-up :

Description of the pictures :

- Lead-in questions: Hang up 2 pictures and ask Ss some questions

-T guides the ways to play Elicit pictures

Use WH-questions to elicit 2 pictures Show 2 pictures and demonstrate with one student Lead in: Today I’ll help you how to describe someone’s physical appearance

- T writes the title of the new lesson on the black board

-Ss answer T’s questions -Ss can stand up and describe

Unit 1: SPEAKING

- Ask Ss to think of the adjectives used to describe people’s appearance

II Pre-Speaking

*Brainstorming:

* Match the words from the box with the parts of the

body you can be used to describe

III While-Speaking

TASK 1:

-

Ex: - She has long blond hair

- (S)he is pretty tall with

- Game: Guessing WHO IS (S)HE?

* Example:

S1: This person is short and thin She has long blond

hair

Ss: Is this ?

S1: Yes/ No

TASK 2:

- Setting situation:

- Ask Ss fill in the table, then read aloud them

- Explain the meanings if Ss do not understand

- T gives a sample Tina is very tall, and she has long black hair She’s about

20 Oh, and she’s very slim She looks like a film star

-Show Ss pictures in the textbook and ask them to describe his/ her hair/ body build

- Call on a S to describe a friend in class, the others have

to guess who (s)he is

- Go on until Ss guess right

- T and Ss read these words in chorus and make sure that Ss know the meanings and the use

of theses words

- Game: Rub out and remember

- Get Ss to work in pairs to number the personalities above in order of importance

in friendship, then compare with the other pairs

- Give feedback

- Questionnaire: Ask Ss to complete the following table

- Feedback: Check the questions

- Ask Ss to make a list of questions that are used to describe people’s physical characteristics and

personalities

- Write a paragraph about one of your best friend

- Prepare section 3: LISTENING

- T introduces more difficult questions and some useful language in the text book

- Role play: Ask Ss to work in pairs and then compare the information with the other pairs

- Choose some Ss to present their reports in front of class

Ss write down
