Daisy , what are you protesting about?

Well, it's the park near my house Last month a

construction company got permission to build a

new road there to take some of the traffic out

of the village It's a beautiful place and lots of

people go there to walk and play The road will

spoil it for everyone, so I decided to take action

How have you protested?

I came here with some friends and we put up

our tents because the law says that if you stay in

a place for more than 24 hours, you can stay

there until the court orders you to go Then

after 24 hours we phoned the newspapers and

the TV to get publicity and other eco-protesters

joined us

Do you think your protest will be

successful?

Well, it might be, but I'm not sure There's no

easy answer to these problems, you know what I

mean? Everyone was really interested in our

protest and we were on the radio and TV Local

people were really angry about the new road

when they found out about it We haven't g.ot a

definite answer yet, but the council is

investigating the case and they may not allow

the construction to go ahead However, it may

take months to get a decision

What are your plans for the future?

When I leave school at the end of the year, I

might go to university and do Environmental

Studies or I might not go to university I might

go and work for Greenpeace instead I really

care about the environment and I will always try

to do something for our planet

Harrison Ford plays Deckard brilliantly, and the rest of the cast - Rutger Hauer, Daryl Hannah and Sean Young - ore excellent too Rutger Hauer is particularly good Although his replicant character initially seems very unpleasant, his final sc ne is one of the most moving things I've ever watched

6 Amar's co sin, Deepak, as be n on h liday to Coa

to Goa, which you recommended I went with my American friend from university, Paul, whose sister

Nicele was in Goa for a week She's travelling

with two friends, who I didn't know, so it was a bit weird at first - but after a day or two we all got on

really well and had a great time!

It was a perfect holiday! The weather wasn't as hot and humid as usual - it was Quite dry and

cool The monsoon rains have just finished, so we were quite lucky!

We went to Goa by plane I've never been to the west coast of India and it's a beautiful region with some mountainous areas and amazing forests, which have been compared to the Amazon and Congo for their biodiversity That's why Goa's got so many famous national parks, including the Salim Ali bird sanctuary, which we visited

guest houses, posh restaurants and also cheap

cafes There are Christian churches as well as Hindu temples - because the Portuguese, who controlled the area before Independence, tried hard to convert Goa to Christianity By the way, did you know that Goa only Officially became the 25th state of the Indian Republic in 198??

Goa's very busy We were there for the Carnival,

which is a non-stop three-day festival of music and colour, and Paul and Nicole loved it The beaches are fantastic too, of course!

We stayed in Baga Beach, which is near a quiet

fishing village Our bungalow was by the beachwhich had shady palm trees close to the water's edge Paradise!

If Jackie ever comes to visit you in India, you'll have to take her to Goa!

Bye for now, Deepak
