Trang 11Adobe Photoshop is a raster graphics editor created and released by AdobeInc for Windows and macOS Thomas and John Knoll originally came upwith the idea in 1988 Since then, the program has evolved into the industrystandard for editing raster images as well as all forms of digital art
Although Adobe forbids it, the term "photoshop" is frequently usedinformally as a verb (e.g., "to photoshop an image," "photoshopping," and
"photoshop contest") Photoshop supports masks, alpha compositing, and avariety of color models, including RGB, CMYK, CIELAB, spot color, andduotone It can also edit and compose raster pictures on numerous layers
To accommodate these features, Photoshop employs its PSD and PSB fileformats Photoshop has limited capabilities for editing or rendering text, vector graphics (particularly using clipping path for the latter), 3D graphics, and video in addition to raster images Plug-ins, applications created andreleased separately from Photoshop that run inside of it and provide new orimproved features, can expand its feature set
Version numbers were once the foundation of Photoshop's naming scheme. However, starting in October 2002 (after the launch of the Creative Suitebranding), each subsequent version of Photoshop was given the "CS" prefixplus a number
For instance, Photoshop CS was the eighth major version, while PhotoshopCS2 was the ninth Additionally, there were two editions of Photoshopavailable from CS3 to CS6: Standard and Extended
Photoshop's license model was converted to a subscription-based SaaS model
in June 2013 with the launch of the Creative Cloud branding (and subsequentchanging of the "CS" suffix to "CC") In the past, Adobe ImageReady, AdobeFireworks, Adobe Bridge, Adobe Device Central, and Adobe Camera RAWwere all included in the price of Photoshop
Adobe also creates and disseminates Photoshop Elements, PhotoshopLightroom, Photoshop Express, Photoshop Fix, Adobe Illustrator, andPhotoshop Mix in addition to Photoshop While originally having fewerfeatures, Adobe promises to add more features to Photoshop for iPad As ofNovember 2019, Adobe has also launched a full version of Photoshop for the
Trang 12iPad They are collectively referred to as "The Adobe Photoshop Family".
Trang 13CHAPTER ONE OVERVIEW
This chapter will show you amazing features in Adobe Photoshop 2023,various ways to open photos and save your works, what Camera Raw is, andhow to use it
FEATURES OF ADOBE PHOTOSHOP 2023
The big update to Photoshop 2023 is here right now and you'll learn about itsnew features
1 Delete and Fill
The first new feature we're going to look at is Delete and Fill What Delete
and Fill does is it essentially uses Content Aware Fill but it also expands
the edges so we don't get an edge
For instance, let's say you want to add a background blur to this photo, click
on the Object Selections Tool by the left-hand side toolbar and choose the
Select Subject option by the top toolbar then select the Cloud Option you're
going to get a better selection You will have to hit Ctrl J to copy it to a new layer (Layer 1).
Now, if we just blur the background by selecting Filter at the top of the screen and click on Gaussian Blur by increasing the Radius via the slider,
then you will get edges that show how the color spills off
Trang 14Now press Ok and hide that by clicking the eye icon beside the Layer 1 icon,
you can see that it's blurring those people and the edges are also blurringwhich makes a fake-looking blur
The solution to this is to fill the Background Area and then click on Layer 1 and hit Ctrl + T.
However, what happens when you use a regular Content Aware Fill by turning off the Selection, you will have a weird edge So if you used to apply
the blur, the issue will remain the same
Trang 15The best thing to do is to go into selection, expand in Selection, and may apply Content Aware Fill So this is essentially what this new Delete and
Fill does.
2 Lens Blur
Right-click on the picture and select Delete and Fill Selection which will
make it beautiful and clean
When you click on Layer 1, select Filter at the top of the screen, hit Blur, and then click on Lens Blur.
Trang 16The reason you may use that is that you can apply several kinds of shapes alittle bit and get a nice bokeh kind of effect in the background then you willhave a beautiful blue background with no halos on the edges and nice crispedges.
3 Photo Restoration
In the Neural Filters, Photo Restoration can be a lot of work In this case,
we've got stains, scratches and it's faded
Trang 17You can use AI in Photoshop to fix this Click on Filters and then you are going to select the Neural Filters which are going to load up If you see a little cloud by some options in the Neural Filter panel under All Filters, that
means just click on that cloud to download them
Turn on Phone Restoration which will show "Processing on device" and
there's a toggle inside the preferences where you can do it on the cloud whichwill get you a better result but it takes a little bit longer
4 Scratch Reduction and Photo Enhancement
Now, let's see what we can do with the Scratch Reduction, at the right-hand side under the Photo Restoration panel, increase the slider a little bit, and
then you will see that the scratches are just gone
Trang 18You can adjust the amount or click Enhance Face if you want the faces to be
a little bit sharper or a little clearer We can also increase the Photo
Enhancement, and adjust the amount of any of the sliders and if you click on Adjustments there are other features you can apply.
However, Halftone artifacts reduction could be good if you've got somethingfrom a scan from a magazine You will notice it didn't get that little bit in the
face and you would still go into the Cloud Stamp but it's giving you a good
start You will notice it's kind of faded at the bottom too so you can fix all ofthese
5 Masking
Let's open up Masking where you will see Create New Mask and then you will see People at the bottom which will select the people in the picture.
Trang 19So if you choose All People it will enable you to edit all the people but what
if you want to edit the hair on the people you can just click on Hair and
select all the hair on everybody
The same goes with Face Skin, Body Skin, Eyebrows, Eye Sclera, Iris and
Pupils, Lips, Teeth, and Hair.
Trang 20So, if you want to select everyone and choose to do the Face Skin, click on it and select Create which will create a mask for their faces If you want to
soften the faces you can just scroll then and see several effects You can grab
the Texture slider by pulling it to the left or right to soften the skin of all
those faces as soon as you want
6 Select Objects
Let's go back to Selection because we are using selection tools and then if you choose Background it's going to select everything.
Trang 21You can click on Subtract and Select Sky then you will get your
background
When you click on Subtract there's another tool which is Select Objects and
with this tool, you can use a brush or a square You can remove the man fromthe background color by drawing a box around him
Trang 237 Curves
If you want to make some adjustments, there is another new feature known as
Curves We can add some curves to the background which will not affect
anything else, just the background
8 Content Aware Remove
Trang 24Under the Healing brush, there's a new feature which is a Content Aware
Remove It helps to get rid of stuff like Content Aware Fill which is now
inside the Camera Raw After clicking on it, select any object in your photoand it will get rid of it
How To Open Photos
Learn how to use the new Home Screen, how to access JPEG and raw files, and all other methods for opening photos in Photoshop!
Opening photos might seem like a simple task However, when working with
a program as complex as Photoshop, even a seemingly simple task likeopening an image might be trickier than you might think Additionally,Adobe has added a new Home Screen to the most current versions ofPhotoshop, giving us even more options for opening images There istherefore always something new to learn, even if you have used Photoshopfor years
Two Methods to Use Photoshop
In reality, there are two alternative approaches to begin using Photoshop One
is to start with a new, blank Photoshop document and add images, graphics, and other resources to it The other option is to open a previously savedimage
Most of the time, particularly if you're a photographer, you'll want to begin
by opening an image, therefore this is what we'll be learning how toaccomplish We'll also examine the critical distinction between viewing aphoto that was taken in the raw format and viewing a regular JPEG file
You should use the most recent version of Photoshop and make sure yourcopy is current if you want to get the most out of this guide
Let's get going!
How to Access the Home Screen of Photoshop to Open an Image
Let's first take a look at how to open photos with Photoshop's new HomeScreen feature The Home Screen appears when Photoshop CC is launchedwithout first opening an image or when a document is closed with no otheropen documents
Trang 25Opening a recent file.
The Home Screen will display them as thumbnails if you've previouslyworked on any photographs or documents
Simply click on a file's thumbnail to reopen a recently closed file inPhotoshop so you may continue working on it:
Opening a new image from the Home Screen.
However, you won't see any thumbnails if this is your first time startingPhotoshop or if you've deleted the history of recent files In its place, theHome Screen will show up in its original form with several boxes that can beclicked to learn more about Photoshop
Since the content on the Home Screen is dynamic and occasionally changes, yours may not exactly like what we're seeing here:
Hit the Open icon in the left-hand column to open a fresh image from the
Trang 27Closing an image
Select Close from the File menu in the Menu Bar at the top of the screen to
close the image
Reopening the image from the Home Screen
Photoshop brings me back to the Home Screen because there were no otherphotos open A thumbnail of the previously opened image is now visible. You can simply click on its thumbnail to reopen it:
Trang 28The same picture then appears again:
How To Access A Second Image From The Home Screen
What happens if you wish to open a second image after you've already
opened the first one as we've done here? The Home button is located in the
upper left corner of Photoshop's interface, and as we've already seen, itallows us to return to the Home Screen at any time
Trang 29Once again on the Home Screen, hit the Open icon as follows:
Double-click on your second image after finding it in your images folder:
Trang 30And Photoshop opens the picture.
How To Switch Between Multiple Open Images
Click the tabs at the top of the documents to switch between open images:
What To Do If The Home Button On Photoshop Is Missing
Check Photoshop's Preferences to make sure the Home Screen hasn't been
turned off if the Home button in the upper left corner is absent when using
Photoshop CC 2019 or later
Navigate to the Edit menu on a Windows computer Navigate to the
Photoshop CC menu on a Mac Select General after selecting Preferences:
Find the Disable the Home Screen option in the Preferences dialogue box
Trang 31and deselect it Uncheck it if it is Hit OK to close the dialog box after that.
For the change to take effect, remember to close and reopen Photoshop:
How To Use Photoshop's File Menu To Open Photos
Although the Home Screen is a fantastic new tool that you should use all thetime, the more conventional method of opening an image in Photoshop is by
selecting Open from the File option in the Menu Bar Alternatively, you can use the Ctrl+O (Windows) / Command+O keyboard shortcut (Mac) That's
"O" for "Open":
Once more, this launches the Finder on a Mac or the File Explorer on a
Windows computer Let's double-click the third picture to make it theselection:
Trang 32Likewise, the third image opens in Photoshop just like the first two:
Also, you can see that we currently have three images open in the tabs alongthe top of the docs We are limited to one image at a time while working inPhotoshop, but we can have as many images open as we like Just click thetabs to switch between images:
How To Close Images In Photoshop
Select the image you wish to close by clicking its tab to do so without closingany other photos you have open
Then select Close from the File menu up top:
Trang 33Alternatively, you can close the tab more quickly by clicking the tiny "x"
button there:
Additionally, instead of dismissing individual tabs, select Close All from the
File menu to close all open photos at once By doing this, you can close the
photos and come back to Photoshop's main screen:
How To Use Photoshop To Open Raw Files
The only pictures we've opened in Photoshop so far are JPEG files They all
had the ".jpg" file extension, which lets us know they were JPEG files.
However, what about raw files? Specifically, pictures that were shot in yourcamera's raw file format?
Select the Open button to open a raw file from the Home Screen:
Trang 34Choose the raw file you wish to open after that Every camera manufacturerhas a unique raw format with a unique three-letter extension As anillustration, Canon raw files commonly end in ".cr2," Nikon uses ".nef," andFuji uses ".raf."
The raw file in this instance bears the ".dng" suffix, which is short for
"Digital Negative." This is the raw format that Adobe uses exclusively:
The Camera Raw Plug-in For Photoshop
Raw files first open in a Photoshop plugin called Camera Raw before
entering Photoshop as JPEG files do Because it is used to handle raw images(adjusting exposure and color, adding some preliminary sharpening, andmuch more) before transferring them to Photoshop, Camera Raw isfrequently referred to as a digital darkroom
Trang 35Since Adobe Lightroom and Camera Raw both use the same pictureprocessing engine and have similar editing features, you'll feel completely athome in either program:
Closing Camera Raw Without Launching Photoshop To Open The Picture
Camera Raw provides so many image alterations that you may be able tofinish all of your work there instead of sending the image to Photoshop insome circumstances The scope of this lesson does not even begin to coverediting photos in Camera Raw
For the time being, click the Done button if you're satisfied with the imageand only want to shut down Camera Raw without switching to Photoshop. When you save your Camera Raw preferences, they are also saved with theraw file and will be available again when you access it:
Trang 36How To Move The Image From Camera Raw To Photoshop
However, you can close Camera Raw and transfer the image to Photoshop for
additional processing by selecting Open Image:
The picture appears in Photoshop with all of the adjustments you performed
in Camera Raw earlier:
Closing the image
When finished, select Close from the File menu by going to the top:
Trang 37And doing so takes us back to Photoshop's Home Screen, where all of ourrecently accessed files are shown as thumbnails and are available forreopening as necessary:
What to do next?
There you have it, then! That is how to use Photoshop's Home Screen andFile menu to open (and reopen) photos! Although it is simple to reopen recentfiles from the Home Screen, Adobe Bridge, the free file browser includedwith your Creative Cloud subscription, is a better option for finding andopening new images
How To Save Your Work
Saving occurs slightly differently in Photoshop than they do in most otherprograms Photoshop offers several options to store your photographs incontrast to Microsoft Word, which only supports one main file format(.docx) In this lesson, we'll go over Photoshop's many file-saving options aswell as some typical justifications for doing so
Trang 38Saving Options
You can choose from several options and file types when saving a file inPhotoshop:
however, you won't always use it Your layers and every other piece
of information in your image will be saved so you may quickly re-edit
it in the future Since PSD files are made to be opened in Photoshop, you'll also need to save a copy of the image in a widely used file type, such as JPEG, if you wish to share it with others
file formats, such as JPEG and PNG These file formats are ideal forsharing with others since they can be viewed and edited on practicallyany computer or mobile device These formats can't store layerinformation, making them less helpful than PSD files if you intend tokeep editing the file
upload an image to the Web, such as on a blog or website You canuse this program to save web-optimized photos, which will make themsimpler to download and view online The option to resize images isone of the many helpful options included in Save for Web foroptimizing images for the Web
Three versions of an image file are shown in the image below: the originalJPEG file, an edited PSD version, and a final JPEG version that has beencropped and saved for the Web As you can see, the file size of the Webversion is far smaller than those of the original and PSD versions
Trang 39The saving method you select will ultimately rely on what you need to dowith the image Let's look at a few instances to see why you would usevarious saving strategies.
Example 1:
Suppose you are asked to design a new header picture for a business website. You need to add the provided photo and some text with the company name. This kind of project should be saved as a PSD file because you'll probablyupdate and revise it This makes it simple to continue editing the file in the
future Additionally, you should click Save for Web to generate a new JPEG
version of the finished image since it will eventually be published online
As you can see, the saving method you select will change depending on theproject Take a moment to evaluate the kind of files you'll need before saving
a photograph This procedure will start to feel quick and easy as you get moreproficient with Photoshop
Using Save As
Trang 40PSD files can be saved in addition to other popular formats like JPEG and
PNG using the Save As command.
Save As to save the file.
appropriate file name To prevent mistakenly overwriting the originalfile, you should create a new file with a different name
