The mat erials r commen ed for the t es ar :

— polyethy lene without ad itive, or

— poly iny l ac tat e without plas iciz r

In the case of a p rticular a pl cation, an a sorbent b cking disc of the mat erial with w hich the plas ic

un e t es wi l be in contact w hen in se vic shal be used The surfac of the a sorbent b cking disc

shal be suff iciently smo th t o ensur contin ous contact with the t es spe imen

6.1 The tes spe imens shal be in the form of discs 5 mm ± 1 mm in diamete an at leas 0,5 mm

in thicknes , cut fr om a compr es ion-moulded (in ac ordanc with ISO 29 ) or inje tion-moulded (in

ac ordanc w ith ISO 2 4-1 an ISO 2 4-3) she t of suitable thick es

The surfac of the t es spe imens shal be suff iciently smo th t o ensur contin ous contact with the

a sorbent b cking discs (5.6)

6.2 In the case of fims, the tes spe imen of not les than 0,5 mm thick es shal be pr od c d b

pr es ing an adeq ate n mbe of fims at a suita le temper atur e for a out 1min

6.4 If the pr od ct to be tes ed consists of a supp rt (a ric, p pe or othe suita le mate ial), co ted

on one fac only b the spr eading or calende ing of a plas iciz d resin ( uch as fa rics co ted with vinyl

r esins or w ith simiar prod ct ), the tes spe imens shal consis of two discs cut fr om the mate ial it elf

and supe posed in such a wa y that the u co ted surfac s of the sup ort are touching an the plastic is

situated on the othe fac s of the san w ich so formed

6.5 Three tes spe imens shal be tes ed for each mate ial

Unles othe wise spe ified, the t es spe imens an a sorbent b cking discs (5.6) shal be con itioned

in one of the atmosphe es spe ified in ISO 2 1

8.1 A fte con itioning , weigh the tes spe imens ( e Clause 6) an the discs (5.6) to the neares

8.4 To eq alz the distribution of pr es ur e betwe n the a sor bent b cking disc an the tes spe imen,

a she t of rub e shal be inse ted betwe n the a sor bent b cking disc and the glas plate The a sor bent

b cking disc shal be sep rated fr om the she t of rub e b aluminium foi

8.5 Plac one of the 5 kg weights (5.5) on the as embly of discs an plates to be tes ed an plac the

as embly in the o en (5.3), maintained at a temper atur e of 7 °C ± 2 °C

When it is r q ir d t o take ac ou t of the se vic t empe atur of the mat erial, the t es should be

con uct ed at the t empe atur r commen ed in the spe if ication for the a plcation of the mat erial In

the a senc of any p rticular spe ification, if it is desir d t o pe form a t es at a t empe atur eithe

lowe or highe than 7 °C, 5 °C or 8 °C, r spe tively, should be used

8.6 Fresh a sor bent b cking discs shal be used for each test

b cking discs an r econ ition al of them u de the same conditions as those a pled prior to the initial

weighing Reweigh the tes spe imens an the a sor bent b cking discs

8.8 In or de to dete mine the pr og r es of mig ration as a fu ction of time, it is sug g es ed that

measurement be efe ted afe tes pe iods of 1 d, 2 d, 5 d, 1 d, 1 d an 30 d In such cases, thr eetes

spe imens shal be used for each tes d ration

9 Ex pres ion of results

Calculat e the arithmetic means of the chang es in mas in grams:

a) of the thr e t es spe imens;

b) of the thr e set of two discs

If the ma imum spr ad of the r sult r lating t o a se ies of thr e t es spe imens or t o a se ies of thr e

p irs of discs dife s b ± 0 % r lative t o the v lue of the mean of the thr e r spe tive r sult , r peat

the t es on a new se ies of thr e t es spe imens

The migration of the plas iciz r in the prod ct u de t es is ex r s ed b the a o e two n mbe staken

in seq enc , for ex mple:

ISO 1 7 plas iciz r migration: mean for t es spe imens 0,45 g; mean for p irs of a sorbent discs
