Version compatibility of IBM Systems Director components across releases
Determining your database migration path for IBM Systems Director 6.3.2
The database migration path to IBM Systems Director 6.3.2 depends on whichdatabase you are currently using with IBM Systems Director 6.2.x or 6.3 and whichdatabase you want to use with IBM Systems Director 6.3.2
To determine your database migration path, complete the following steps:
1 Determine which database application you are currently using with IBM
Systems Director 6.2.x or 6.3
Trang 182 Determine your database migration path for your environment:
Table 2 Database migration paths for IBM Systems Director 6.3.2
Apache Derby
This database is the default database
of IBM Systems Director 6.2.x
You want to continue to use thedefault database with IBM SystemsDirector 6.3.x
The upgrade process automaticallymigrates your Apache Derbydatabase to the managed IBM DB2®
database The managed IBM DB2database is the default database ofIBM Systems Director 6.3.x
You want to use a non-defaultdatabase instead of the defaultdatabase
v Migrate your default ApacheDerby database to the defaultmanaged IBM DB2 database andthen switch your database to anon-default database The upgradeprocess automatically migratesyour Apache Derby database to themanaged IBM DB2 database. However, when you switch to anon-default database, you loseyour data
v Do not upgrade and migrate toIBM Systems Director 6.3.x.Instead, uninstall IBM SystemsDirector 6.2.x, install IBM SystemsDirector 6.3.x , and configure IBMSystems Director 6.3.x to use yourdesired non-default database
Trang 19Table 2 Database migration paths for IBM Systems Director 6.3.2 (continued)
Any non-default database
IBM Systems Director 6.3.x continues
to use your non-default database Theupgrade process automaticallymigrates your data to IBM SystemsDirector 6.3.x
You want to use the default databasewith IBM Systems Director 6.3.x,which is the managed IBM DB2database
v During the upgrade process, specify that you want to migrateyour non-default database to themanaged IBM DB2 database
Restriction: You cannot migrateyour non-default database to themanaged IBM DB2 database if all
of the following statements aretrue for your non-default database:– Your non-default database is theMicrosoft SQL Server or theMicrosoft SQL Server Expressdatabase
– Your non-default database isremote
– IBM Systems Director Serverconnects to your non-defaultdatabase by using Windowsauthentication
Instead, you must complete apost-installation configuration onIBM Systems Director Server 6.3.2
to switch your non-defaultdatabase to the managed IBM DB2database
v Migrate your database to IBMSystems Director 6.3.x and thencomplete a post-installationconfiguration to switch yourdatabase to the managed IBM DB2database By default, your datawill be migrated to the managedIBM DB2 database
After you determine your database migration path, finish preparing to upgrade themanagement server to IBM Systems Director 6.3.2 For instructions, see “Preparing
to upgrade and migrate the management server to IBM Systems Director 6.3.2” onpage 2
Trang 20Related concepts:Database application
Related tasks:Choosing the database applicationConfiguring the database
Switching the database
Preparing the Microsoft SQL Server or Microsoft SQL Server Express database for upgrading and migrating to IBM
1 Ensure that you have enough free storage space to save your data with the
smsavecommand To estimate the amount of free storage space that you need, see “Estimating free storage space required for the Microsoft SQL Server andMicrosoft SQL Server Express databases” on page 9
2 Determine the location in which you want to save your migrated data Forexample, C:\ProgramData\ISD63x\ Ensure that the available space in thislocation has at least twice as much space as the size of your current database
3 Keep the Command Line tool installed and unchanged
4 Ensure that you know the database name, the administrator user ID andpassword, and the database server machine name The IBM Systems Director6.3 upgrade process uses this information to connect to the database
5 If your database is on a remote server, ensure that you create a folder on that
database server with permissions such that the IBM Systems Director smsave
process has write access
6 Determine whether the following statements are true for your database:
v Your database is remote
v Your database connects to IBM Systems Director by using Windowsauthentication
If both of the previous statements are true, verify that you are logged in toWindows with the active directory user ID that you use to authenticate to thedatabase
After you have prepared the database for upgrading and migrating to IBMSystems Director 6.3.x, finish preparing to upgrade the management server Forinstructions, see “Preparing to upgrade and migrate the management server to IBMSystems Director 6.3.2” on page 2
Trang 21You can estimate the amount of free storage space that the smsave command needs
to save your data
Each system has its own set of storage needs that depend on many factors,
including the following factors:
v The current size of the database
v If the database server is remote to the management server, the disk space needsare split across the management server and the database server In this situation,
database storage consumes most of the smsave data Therefore, most of the disk
space needs fall on the database server and you do not need as much space onthe management server
v If you are migrating any plug-ins along with IBM Systems Director, the presence
of plug-in data most likely greatly increases your storage needs
As a rule, you can take the size of your current database plus 1 GB, and use that
as your storage space requirement for the smsave data.
To estimate the required amount of free storage space for the Microsoft SQL Serverdatabase or the Microsoft SQL Server Express database, complete the followingsteps:
1 Determine the size of the current Microsoft SQL Server database or the currentMicrosoft SQL Server Express database:
a Determine the database name from the install_root\lwi\conf\overrides\database.propertiesfile
b Open the SQL Management Studio If you do not have the SQL
Management Studio, download it for free from www.microsoft.com
c Log in to the SQL Management Studio by using your database
administrator credentials
d Navigate to the database you are using
e Right-click on the database and select Properties The size of the database is
shown in MB
2 Add 1 GB to the result of Step 1 This number is the approximate amount of
free storage space that the smsave command requires to save your data.
After you have determined the required storage space, continue preparing thedatabase for upgrading and migrating to IBM Systems Director 6.3.2 For
instructions, see one of the following procedures depending on the database type
to which you plan to migrate:

Migration checks
Migrating IBM Systems Director Server from 6.2.x to 6.3.2 is not supported Themigration validity check determines whether 6.2.x is installed, and instructs theuser to migrate to 6.3.0 and then to use update manager to update to 6.3.2
This check only shows a failure if it detects a version before IBM Systems DirectorServer 6.2.x If the Pre-Installation Utility cannot read existing product data, youreceive a warning
1 Verify that you have IBM Systems Director Server 6.2.x installed
2 Ensure that your management server is running IBM Systems Director Server6.2.x If not, you must first upgrade your system to IBM Systems DirectorServer 6.2.x If you do not want to retain previous product files or data, youmight prefer to uninstall an older version and perform a new 6.3 installation

RSA check
You cannot upgrade when the Remote Supervisor Adapter II (RSA II) is installedand enabled
If the Pre-Installation Utility detects the Remote Supervisor Adapter II (RSA II) or
if it detects RSA II along with IBM Director Core Services 5.20.31 or older, thePre-Installation Utility check fails
1 Ensure that the management server is running IBM Systems Director Server6.2.x before you upgrade If not, you must first upgrade your system to IBMSystems Director Server 6.2.x If you do not want to migrate existing data, youmight prefer to uninstall an older version and perform a new IBM SystemsDirector Server 6.3 installation
2 If you uninstall the old version of IBM Systems Director Server, ensure that theRSA service processor is uninstalled or disabled
Host name check
Ensure that your system is able to resolve both its own name and localhost name.
Use either the domain name server (DNS) or the /etc/hosts file(%WinDir%\System32\Drivers\etc\hosts file for Windows) to ensure that your
system can resolve its own name and localhost name.
Important: If there is no DNS setting on your Common Agent system, to ensurethat Common Agent works properly, you must set all global IP addresses in/etc/hosts(%WinDir%\System32\Drivers\etc\hosts for Windows)
1 Use the ping command to ensure that the localhost name resolves successfully If
the ping command is unsuccessful, ping the gateway IP address and the DNSserver IP address to help identify where the communication problem isoccurring
2 View the IP address and host name information in the /etc/hosts file to ensurethat they are listed correctly
