Running the Pre-Installation Utility (PIU)
Use the Pre-Installation Utility to ensure that your system meets the IBM SystemsDirector requirements
The IBM Systems Director Pre-Installation Utility scans the local system to identifypotential problems that might prevent IBM Systems Director from installingsuccessfully The utility runs checks on disk space, memory, prerequisite software, processors, and more It does not scan for device drive or firmware requirements. The tool is run automatically during the installation process; however, you canchoose to run the tool before starting the installation wizard as well This practice
is a good way to find and fix possible problems in advance
Trang 29Note: If you are using a local database, the requirements might be slightly higherthan what is checked by the Pre-Installation Utility See the hardware requirementstopics for information related to database considerations.

AIX pre-installation checks
After you run the Pre-Installation Utility, you receive a report summarizing theresults of the pre-installation checks performed on your system Use thisinformation to correct potential problems before installing IBM Systems DirectorServer 6.3.x
Trang 31Some of the checks performed by the Pre-Installation Utility include:
Required software for AIX:
IBM Systems Director Server requires certain software to be on the system beforeinstallation
Ensure that the following required openssl and openssh versions are installed:
v openssl.base 0.9.8.4 or higher
v if installed, openssh.base.server 4.5.0.5301 or higher
There is a dependency between openssl and openssh versions If openssl is notinstalled, it is installed as part of the server or agent installation However, if thiswould create an inconsistency with the openssh version on the system, openssl isnot installed and the installation fails
Note: If you want to run the Agent Installation Wizard from the server, openssh isrequired However, the server installation does not enforce openssh installation
Trang 32Option Description Management server The IBM Systems Director installation
processes and Web server require access to anumber of ports on the management server
If these ports are blocked by a firewall orused by another process, the installationfails By default, IBM Systems Directorserver requires the following ports:
v 8421
v 8422
v 20000
Common Agent Ensure that the installation is set to use
ports that are not already in use By default, the Common Agent installation processrequires the following ports:
Provisioning Manager agent Ensure theseports are available and start the installationprocess again
(AIX only) Complete the following steps tocheck for port use and, if any are in use, modify Common Agent configuration to usedifferent ports:
1 Check if the ports are in use by runningthe following command:
netstat -an | grep LISTEN | \egrep "951(0|4|5)"
2 On the agent server, modify theconfiguration to use different ports byrunning the following command:/var/opt/tivoli/ep/runtime/agent/ \toolkit/bin/configure.sh \
-unmanaged -port
not_9510 -jport \ not_9514 -nport \ not_9515 -force
where not_951x is any open port other
than 951x
3 Start the installation script again orinstall the Common Agent file setmanually

Ensure that your system is able to resolve both its own name and localhost name.
Use either the domain name server (DNS) or the /etc/hosts file
(%WinDir%\System32\Drivers\etc\hosts file for Windows) to ensure that your
system can resolve its own name and localhost name.
Trang 34Important: If there is no DNS setting on your Common Agent system, to ensurethat Common Agent works properly, you must set all global IP addresses in/etc/hosts(%WinDir%\System32\Drivers\etc\hosts for Windows).
1 Use the ping command to ensure that the localhost name resolves successfully If
the ping command is unsuccessful, ping the gateway IP address and the DNSserver IP address to help identify where the communication problem isoccurring
2 View the IP address and host name information in the /etc/hosts file to ensurethat they are listed correctly
Reserve attribute check:
If the reserve lock or reserve policy attribute for Multipath I/O (MPIO) disks isturned on, file data might become corrupted
Set the reserve lock or reserve policy attribute on Multipath I/O (MPIO) disks to
no and start the installation again To set the reserve lock or reserve policy
attribute, use the following steps:
1 Ensure that you have admin authority
2 Run the following command to show the attribute setting of the disk andwhether it supports a reserve policy or reserve lock
lsattr -EH -l <hdisk> |grep_reserve
where <hdisk> is the disk name you received in the Pre-Installation Utility
report This command shows you whether the disk supports the reserve_policyattribute or the reserve_lock attribute
3 To turn off the reserve lock or the reserve policy of the disk, run the followingcommand (as applicable):
chdev -l <hdisk> -a reserve_lock=no
or
chdev -l <hdisk> -a reserve_policy=no_reserve

Tips for creating the server response file for IBM Systems
Trang 38About the server response file
You can specify the following items in the server response file:
v Specify the Web console port numbers
v Specify the Tivoli Provisioning Manager host name and IP address
v Enable or disable the nonstop service, which keeps the server continuouslyrunning
v Specify a different location from where to install updates
v If you are installing IBM Systems Director Server, you must specify the databasetype that you plan to use with IBM Systems Director Server:
– If you want to use the default managed IBM DB2 database, you must specify
USE_MANAGED_DB=1 This value is the default.
v If you are upgrading IBM Systems Director Server to version 6.3.0 and migratingyour database, you must specify migration options:
– If you plan to migrate your database data, you must specify
– If you are currently using the Apache Derby database, it does not matter
which value you specify for the MIGRATE_TO_MANAGED_DB2 option The
upgrade and migration process automatically migrates your Apache Derbydatabase to the managed IBM DB2 database
v If you plan to use the managed IBM DB2 database, you can specify thefollowing options:
– You can specify the password that the managed IBM DB2 database uses in
the DB_PWD option If you leave this option blank, the installation or
upgrade process automatically generates a password
– You can specify the port that the managed IBM DB2 database uses in the
DB_PORT option If you leave this option blank, the installation or upgrade
process automatically uses the default port 50010 If that port is in use, theinstallation or upgrade process automatically searches for and uses the nextavailable port
– You can specify a non-default location to store the managed IBM DB2database data in one of the following options:
- For AIX or Linux, use the DB_DATAPATH option If you leave this option
blank, the installation or upgrade process automatically creates the/home/dirinst1default location to store the managed IBM DB2 databasedata
– You can specify a non-default path for the managed IBM DB2 instance for
AIX or Linux Use the DB_INSTANCEPATH option If you leave this option
blank, the installation or upgrade process automatically creates the/home/dirinst1default location for the managed IBM DB2 instance
– If you specify a non-default directory for either the database applicationlocation or the database home location, you must create the directory beforeyou edit the cfgdbcmd.rsp response file script In the response file, you will
need to change location of database to DbmsDatabaseAppHome and change db
install directory to DbmsDatabaseHome For a fresh install, you will edit the
Trang 39dirserv.rsp response file script and change the values of
DB_INSTANCEPATH and DB_DATAPATH to your non-default file directory or
directories
– If your system has user ID and password restrictions, you might need tospecify certain options to ensure that the installation succeeds For moreinformation, see "Managed IBM DB2 installation fails."
Tips and techniques
Apply the following tips when you modify the sample dirserv.rsp server
response file during the installation or upgrade processes of IBM Systems DirectorServer:
v A sample response file named dirserv.rsp resides in the same directory as the
dirinstall.serverinstaller
v On AIX, change the default migration directory specified in the server responsefile from /var/tmp/director_migration_save to /var/tmp/director_save_630 To
change the default directory, set the saved_data_path variable to
/var/tmp/director_save_630 This step ensures that the default migration
directory for AIX is consistent with the default directory for Linux
v In the response file, “1” indicates that an item is installed or upgraded and “0”indicates that an item is not installed or upgraded
v If you want to use the default for any value in the response file, comment outthat value with a “#” symbol at the beginning of the line instead of leaving thevalue blank
v If you need to enter any Windows-based locations, ensure that you include the
back slash after drive_letter For example, use C:\foldername instead of
C:foldername
