Chapter 1 Hardware platform events

IBM Systems Director introduces a new set of event types that categorize all possible events by the hardware or devices in your systems-management environment.

v For a hardware events severity-level name and number cross reference, see Table 1.

v For events that can be generated by multiple hardware platforms, including IBM BladeCenter and System x systems, see Table 2.

v For events that are specific to IBM Power®systems, see “ IBM Power platform-specific events.”

v For events that are specific to IBM System Storage®, see “IBM System Storage platform-specific events.”

Use the following table to map event severity-level names to numbers.

Table 1 Severity level name-number cross reference

Severity level name Severity number

Using your Web browser Find in page feature, use the following table to look up

events by their IBM Director 5.20 name The link provided displays the version 5.20 event documentation that still applies to the new version 6.1 event.

IBM BladeCenter and System x platform-specific events

The events listed in this section are specific for the IBM BladeCenter and System x hardware platforms In IBM Director 5.20, these were called the CIM and MPA events In IBM Systems Director 6.1, the CIM and MPA events are still used, but are mapped to hardware component categories Use the Hardware-platform event cross-reference table to find the 5.20 event name and its equivalent 6.1 event name.

If you select the CIM check box in the Event Filter Builder tree, the event filter will

process all of the event types that are specified in the CIM subtree.

CIM > System

The System events occur when a change in the state of a Platform Agent managed system or Common Agent managed system managed system is detected These events also occur when a change in the state of a Hardware Management Console (HMC) is detected.

Details

The CIM > System event types use a standard set of extended details.

CIM > System > Automatic Server Restart:

The Automatic Server Restart event occurs when the operating system locks up and no longer responds Subsequently, a system restart (reboot) begins This event

is supported on servers with Intelligent Platform Management Interface (IPMI).

AutomaticServer Restart

The last system restart was due to theautomatic server restart hardware

AutomaticServer Restart

The last system restart was not due tothe automatic server restart hardware

Informational Resolution None

CIM > System > DASD Backplane:

The DASD Backplane event occurs when the Remote Supervisor Adapter detects that the state of the system hard disk drive changes with respect to its availability.

DASDBackplane

Drive drive has reported a fault This

event must be cleared manually

where drive is the affected hard disk

drive

Critical Alert None

CIM > System > Disk Space Low:

The Disk Space Low event occurs when the state of system hard disk drive space changes with respect to user-defined levels of hard disk drive space remaining By default, the warning level is 5% remaining and critical level is 3% remaining.

Trang 34

v If the severity is Critical or Warning: Remove files from the specified hard disk

or lower the minimum threshold.

v If the category is Resolution: The error has been resolved This event is informative only.
