larger context

a) The candidate will complete 8 field experiences

These experiences are either interacting verbally with a district administrator regarding an area of administrative theory or action or observing an administrative activity A field experience report will be completed for each activity to include a brief description of the activity, summary of the experience and a reflective statement as to the insights you gained

Possible activities could be:

1 Interview central administrators as to their role, challenges and rewards

2 Discuss topics with principals, counselors, and citizens relating to central office concerns

3 Attend a state or national conference on school administration

4 Sit on a school board executive meeting

5 Observe negotiations

6 Observe a citizens’ advisory meeting

7 Attend an administrative council meeting

8 Observe a staff grievance session

9 Observe a student expulsion hearing

10 Interview a school treasurer as to their role in the district

11 Review the district-level budget allocation with

a district administrator

12 Attend a GCSSA meeting

13 Review the district budget with superintendent

or treasurer

14 Interview the public relations person in the district

15 Attend a levy planning session

16 Attend a City Council meeting

17 Attend a district level PTA meeting

18 Ride a school bus on a morning and afternoon run

19 Attend a bid opening session

20 Review the administrative evaluation process

b) The candidate will complete a term paper on a legal policy issue related to topics discussed in the course
