UNIT 12: THE ASIAN GAMES LESSON 6: LANGUAGE FOCUS

III Objectives:
By the end of the lesson, students will be able to:
- Distinguish the consonant clusters /str/, /skr/ and /skw/, and pronoun the words and sentences containing them correctly;
- To enable the students to revise the use of Relative clause and understand and write sentences with omission of relative pronouns

- Teacher: textbook, chalks, board, laptop, projector, pictures
- Students: textbook, notebook, pens
VII Procedure:
Greeting (1 minute):
-T says: “Good morning class! How are you today?”
-T checks Ss’s attendance
A Warm up: Game: “Who has better
memory?” (5ms)
- Ask Ss: “Would you like to play a game?”
- Give game rules:
+ Whole class close their book

+ Give some words about sounds /str/ ,/skr/ ,
/skw/ such as:
Street, scream, square, strong, screen,

+ Check, which group finished faster and had
highest mark will win and receive a gift
=> Lead in:
- Ask Ss to look at 3 rows on the board Each
row has a pronunciation: e.g.: strong /str/,
screen /skr/ and square /skw/
- Today, to know more about new
pronunciation, we are going to study Unit 12:

To be understand about it, we will learn about
omission of relative pronoun

2 Notes:
Relative pronouns “who, whom, which,
that” can be omitted when:
- It’s the object of the relative clause
- It’s in defining relative clause.
Relative pronouns “who, whom, which,
that” can’t be omitted when:
- After a comma (,).
- After a preposition.
- As a subject (S).
3 Exercises:
3.1 Combine the sentences, using relative
pronouns and put relative pronouns in
brackets if they can be omitted.
