 Use a card with letter (or write on board the

letter O) to introduce to the students the new

lesson

 Instruct students how to pronounce the letter

name and the letter sound by saying: “This is the

letter o The letter o says / o /.”

 Repeat several times and check students’

pronunciation (letter o and its sound / o /)

Activity: Sit and Stand Game

 Show the letter cards one by one

For example, show the card with o, but

incorrectly say b , the students will stand; if the

words are correctly said, they will stay sitting

- Ss introduce themselves

- Ss take out their book and listen to the teacher

- Ss listen to the teacher

- Ss repeat the sounds

- Ss look at the cards

- Ss listen the sounds

Activity: Touching Game (5 mins)

Put the 3 phonics cards on the board in this order:

Gloves,honey,mother,son.

 Divide the class into 2 teams; call one student of

each team to stand 1m from the board

 Read one of the three words out loud (e.g

mother), students must run to tap the card of that

word

 Student who taps the correct card first will get 1

point for his/her team

 Call 4-6 students per team to the board if

possible

Activity 1: Match the pictures with the words

 Show the pictures again, have students match the

pictures with the correct words

 Ss do the task 1 in their workbook ( p 4 )

Write the lyrics of the chant on the board

Without music, use the phonics cards and step

students to sing the chant with mother and son

Do the same with honey and gloves.

With music, the whole class sings the whole

chant Do the chant again using gestures for

each word

word/words to them

The first student whispers the word/words to the

student sitting next to or behind him/her and so

The last students say the word/words aloud

Act It Out Game (5 mins)

Choose a student to come to the front of the

class Show him/her a phonics card or whisper a

word, and have student act it out

The remaining students try to guess the correct

answer

The first student to raise his/ her hand and

answer correctly will come to the front of the

class and activity continues

Put the phonics cards face up on the table/stick

them on the board

Give the students a minute to look at the cards

Have students close their eyes and then you

take away one cards

missing cards

- Ss work in pairs
