GETTING STARTED LESSON 1: LISTEN AND READ

I OBJECTIVES:

1 Educational aim: Help students love their neighborhood

2 Teaching aims: By the end of the lesson, students will be able to talk about the places

in their neighborhood, understand how to use the Present perfect tense with “Since & For”

II PREPARATIONS: Textbook, pictures

III PROCEDURES:

1/ Warm-up: (8’)

- Show pictures about places in the neighborhood

I Getting started:

- Lead to the lesson

- Observe and match

2/ Presentation: (15’)

- Set the scene: Nam and Na are talking about the place

where they live But Na is new there

- Introduce vocabulary:

Close by (phrv):

- Introduce grammar note: Present Perfect tense

2 Present perfect tense:

- Listen

- Listen and guess the meaning, then take note

@ Usage: To describe an action that began in the past

and still is progress at present time

Ex: How long have you been / lived here?

I’ve been / lived here for 10 years.

+ The prepositions “SINCE & FOR” are used in this

case.

* SINCE + a point of time.

* FOR + a period of time

- Ask students to practice the dialogue in pairs

- Have students do the exercise 2 on the page 64

By the end of the lesson, students will be able to talk about how to send a letter or a parcel, know some places or activities in the neighborhood

II PREPARATIONS: Textbook, poster

III PROCEDURES:

1/ Warm-up: (6’)

- Show the picture and ask:

Where are they?

 At the post office

- Lead to the lesson

- Observe, and answer

- Listen

2/ Pre-speaking: (15’)

- Explain vocabulary

I Vocabulary:

 clerk (n)

 airmail (n)

 surface mail (n)

 to weigh (v):

 weight (n)

 parcel(n):

- Ask Ss to practice the dialogue between Mrs Kim and

clerk

- Listen, guess the meaning and take note

- Practice in pairs

3/ While-speaking: (14’)

- Ask students to read carefully the brochure and the

information in the box, make similar dialogues in pairs

- Have students only choose one of the items from the

surface mail or airmail to make dialogues
