I AIMS

1 Knowledge

- By the end of this lesson, Ps will be able to ask and answer questions about what someone can/ cannot do, listen for specific information

- Sentence patterns: What can you do? - I can

- Vocabulary: can, swim, draw, dance, sing, ride, (a) bike, cook, skate

2 Skills: Listening-reading-speaking-writing

3 Attitude: Educate Sts to love their lesson

2 Warm up(5’)

Revise the verbs/ verb phrases to talk about activities ps learnt in TA3 eg: read,

cycle,skip, skate, swim, play football, play volleyball

- use flashcards if possible

3 New lesson(30’)

- T tell ps that they are going to read a story in which ps

ask and answer questions about What they can or cannot

do

- T ask ps to look at the pictures and read the text Get

them to identify the characters and the setting of the

conversation by asking Where are they? What are they

doing?

- Explain the meaning of the phrases can dance, can sing

and can’t dance

- Check comprehension

- T play the recording more than once

answering questions about what someone can do

- Ps look at the bubbles to understand how to use the

language

- Ps look at the four picture to identify what the girl can

do in each picture

- Point to the first pictureand model the task with one ps,

using the expressions in the bubbles and the word under

the picture

- Ps to say the phrases chorally and individually

- Repeat the same procedure with the rest of the pictures

- Ps to practise in pairs

a Pre-listening

- T looks at the books and sets the scence:

How many sentences are there?

What are they doing? Where are they?

- Tell Ps that they are going to listen to three dialogues

about someone’s abilities and tick the correct pictures

- Ask them to look at the pictures to identify the

similarrities and differences among them

b While-listening

- Play the recording all the way through for Ps to

listen Play it again for them to do the task

- Get them to compare their answers before checking

as a class Play the recording again to confirm the

* Activity 2: Look and write(11’)

a Pre- writing

- Ask Ps to look at activity 4 and answer:

What’s she/ he doing? What can she/ he do?

- Tell Ps that they are going to complete the sentences

to express ability, using the picture cues

- Then tell them to look at the pictures to identify what

the character in each picture can do

b While-writing

- Ask Ps to find apporoprivate words to complete the

sentences

- Give them time to do the task independently

- Get them to swap their answers before checking as a

class

- Invite some ps to read the complete sentences aloud

c Post writing

- Ask Ps to work in pair to ask and answer

4 Look and write

* Activity 3: Let’s play(8’)

- Tell Ps that they are going to play a guessing game

- T procedure in games in introduction

- T write 9 word on the board and then ask 3 ps to

come to front

- T say 1 of the words on rhe board The correct word

gets 1 point.- The 1 who gets the most points at the

end of the game will win

- Invite another 3 ps to play the game

Spend a few minutes, revising the previous lesson by calling some Ps to the front of the class to talk about what they can do and what they can not do

3 New lesson(30’)

- Ask Ps to open their book on page 32 and look at

the pictures

- Tell them that they are going to look at ,listen to

and repeat the dialogue between characters in the

three pictrues

- Ask Ps to look at the pictures to identify the

characters( Tom and Peter ) Ask them question

such as : Who are they? Where are they? What are

they doing? ( a: Tom and Peter are talking in the

street, b: Tom suggest they play football

together,c : Peter kicks the ball and break the

windows) Check comprehension.

- Play the recording more than once, if necessary,

for ss to listen and repeat Do choral and

- Ask Ps to practise in pairs, one asking the

question and the other giving the answer, using the

prompt in the bubbles and pictures

- Select some pairs to demonstrate the task in front

of the class Monitor the activity and other help, if

necessary

Language note: Draw ss’ attention to the expression

Eg: play the guitar, play the piano

d Production:

- Role play

* Activity 3: Let’s talk(7’)

- Tell Ps that they are going to pratise asking and

asnwering about ability, using What can you do ? –

I can … And Can you … ? – Yes, I can/ No, I

can’t.

- Do the task with one the ss as a model Put the

sentences on the board and do choral and individual

repetion

- Ask them to work in pairs, one ss asking the

about their abilities Monitor the activity and offer,

- Select some pairs of Ps to role play in front of the

dialogues about what the four characters can do and

number the correct pictures

- Have them to look at the pictures to identify what the

characters in each pictures can do ( a: Tom can play the

piano, b: Phong can sing, c: Peter can play football, d:

Nam can play table tennis)

b While-listening:

- Play the recording for ss to number the pictures

- Play the recording again for them to check their

answers

- Get Ps to swap their answers before you check as a

class

c Post listening:

- Play the game: Whisper

* Activity 2:Look and write(11’)

a Pre- writing

- Ask ss to look at the pictures on page 33

Who’s this? What’s she/ he doing? Can she/ he…?

- Tell Ps that they are going to write their answers to the

questions about what the childeren can do using the

pictures cues

- Ask the to look at the four pictures to identify what the

character in each picture can/ can not do ( 1: Akiko can’t

dance, 2: Akim can play the piano, 3: Tony can’t play

the guitar, 4: Linda can’t play chess.)

- Ask them to read the questions and think of possible

answers, using the pictures cues After that, have them

write the appropriate answers Get ss to work in pairs, if

necessary

b While- writing

- Give them time to do the task independently Go

around offering help, if necessary

- Get them to swap their answers before checking as a

class If there is enough time, call some pairs to act out

the complete dialogues

c Post writing

5 Look and write

- Ask Ps to ask and answer aloud.

* Activity 3: Let’ s sing(8’)

- Tell ss that they are going to sing the song Can you

swim? Teach the song, following the produre in

teaching the unit components in Introduction

- Have them read each line of the lyrics aloud Check

comprehension

- Play the recording all the way through Ask ss to do

choral and individual repetition of the song line by line

until they get familiarized with the pronunciation, the

stress, the rhythm and the tune of the song

- Play the recording again and get Ps to sing along with

the recording

- Divide the class into two groupss, one sings the

questions and the other sings the answers

- Review the content of lesson

-Ask Ss to do exercises at home
