UNIT 8: Uu Period 1: Part 1, 2, 3

I Objective:

1 Language focus:

- By the end of the lesson Ss recognize and pronounce the letter Uu and its sound correctly

- Understand, recognize and say the three Uu words

- Write the letter Uu

- Vocabulary: up, umbrella,ugly.

- Sight words:It is…

2 Skill: - Listening, speaking, reading, writing.

3 Attitude: - Encourage Ss to use the structure more regulary.

II Teaching aids:

- Book, CD, phonics cards, paper including the lyrics of the chant

III Method:

- Model – Talk - Practice, individual work, pair work, group work

- Some techniques can be used: music chairs

IV Procedures:

1 Organization:

- Check student attendence.

2 Warm up (5’)

Activity: You’re Out

- T hangs some phonics cards from the previous unit in the four corners of the room (1 card/ corner)

- Choose a student to stand in the middle of the classroom with his/ her eyes closed and count to ten while the other students run to the four corners

- When the student in the middle counts to ten, he/ she shouts “STOP” and call a name of a phonics card in the four cards hung on the four corners

- The students in that corner are ‘out’ and must sit down

- Play three round with three different students in the middle The one can made the most students ‘out’ is the winner

3 New lesson

* Activitiy 1: Listen, point and repeat Colour(7’)

- T use a card with letter Uu (or write on board the

letter Uu) to introduce to the students the new

lesson

- Instruct students how to pronounce the letter name

and the letter sound by saying: “This is the letter u

The letter u says u

- Ask Ss repeat several times and check students’

pronunciation

- T use the phonics cards with up, umbrella, ugly,

read the words out loud and have students repeat

a Vocab:

up( picture)

umbrella( explaination)

ugly( real object)

- T uses gestures to help students to understand the

meanings of the three words

- Stick the cards on board and have students repeat

the words chorally several times (in the correct

order and then in any order)

- Call some students to say the words out loud and

correct their mistakes

- Ss say the words out loud

- Ask the students to colour in the letters

- Ss colour in the letters

Activity: Pupil’s book open (3 mins)

- Point to and elicit the sound of the letter and the

words up, umbrella, ugly

- T play the CD The students listen, point and

repeat

- The students color the letters Uu (explain that they

can use any colors they like)

- Teacher goes around the class and elicits the letter

and the word from individual students

Activity 2: Listen and point Colour (7’)

- T points to the tree and say: It is up in an

- Have students look at the book and listen to the

the side

- Choose the correct one for each corresponding

item in the picture

Activity 1 Chant and show(10’)

- T put up the lyris of the chant on the board

- Without music, use the phonics card and step Uu

to sing the chant with up Do the same with

- Ss listen and chant

- With music, the whole class sing the whole chant

Do the chant again using gestures for eacg word

- T give feedback

- T ask Ss to write the chant in to note book

- Ss write the chant in their notebook

- T ask Ss to do excersise in the work book

Activity 1: Writing in the air(3’)

- T show the letter Uu again, have students write

the Uu in air with their fingers

- Ss write the Uu in air with their fingers
