UNIT 1: MY NEW SCHOOL LESSON 5: SKILLS 1 ( P 12 )

A OBJECTIVES:

- By the end of the lesson, students will be able to read about the three different schools to understand the details; talk about these schools

+ Vocabulary: boarding school, kindergarten, oversea, equipment, surround,

creative

+ Grammar:

- Skills: Develop and practce reading and speaking skills

- Political thought and moral sence: Educate students to love their school more and they will be interested in learning English more

B TEACHING AIDS:

- Textbook , teacher’s book , lesson plan , board , chalks, pictures and posters

C METHODS:

Chatting, matching, open - prediction, gap - fill, discussion

D CONTENTS:

*Chatting:

- T asks Ss some questions about their school

1, What is your school's name ?

2, Where is it ?

3, Is it big or small ?

4, Does it have a school garden ?

5, Do you like your school ? Why ?

- Ss answer freely

III.New lesson :

Step 1: Pre – reading:

* Vocabulary:

- boarding school (n): trường nội trú ( example )

- kindergarten ( n ): trường mẫu giáo ( picture )

- equipment ( n ): thiết bị ( example )

- overseas ( adv ): nước ngoài ( situation )

- surround ( v ): bao quanh ( explanation )

- creative ( adj ): sáng tạo ( situation )

+ Concept check: Matching

- T hangs the poster on the board then runs through

1 boarding school

2 kindergarten

3 equipment

4 overseas

5 surround

6 creative

- T gives the instructions: You match one English word in column A with its meaning in column B

* Open –prediction:

- T asks the Ss to look at the three pictures then give their ideas:

( Ss can give as many sentences as possible )

Step 2: While-reading

* Activity 1: Read and check

- T asks Ss to read throuh the three passages quickly then check their ideas

- T gives some comprehension questions

T Ss

- Is PLC SYDNEY school big or small ? - Small

- Which school is small ? - AN LAC school

- Is AN LAC school in the city ? - No

- Which school has English speaking teachers ? - VINABBRITA school

*Activity 2 : Gap-fill.

- T tells the Ss to read the passages again and complete the sentences ask them to note where they found the information that helped them complete the sentences

- Ss work individually to do the task then compare their answer with their partners

- T's correction and answer key

1 boarding ( Students study and live there )

2 Vinabbrita (Some creative students do drawings ans paintings in the art club

3.Australia ( PLC is a school for girls in Sydney )

4 mountains ( The school is surrounded by mountains and green fields)

5 English speaking teachers (Erery day students learn English with English speaking teachers )

Step 3: Post-reading.( Speaking)

*Discussion:

- The Ss answer the question : which school would you like to go to ? Why ?

- Ss complete the table in their notebooks

- Ss work in groups of 5 to discuss the answers to the question When they finish , ask some Ss to talk to the class then the class give their coments on their friends' answer

Example :

S1 : I would like to go to Vinabbrita school because I can learn Englsh with English speaking teachers

IV Summary:

- T asks ss to repeat the main contents of the lesson : vocabulary, some main

information of some schools

V Homework:

- Learn by heart all the vocabulary

- Read all the texts fluently

- Write about one school which you like best

- Do the exercises: 1, 2, 3 in the workbook P 7, 8

- Prepare the new lesson: Unit 2: Lesson 6: Skills 2
