UNIT 9: LETTER V Lesson 1(1-2-3)

I AIMS

1 Knowledge

- By the end of the lesson, students will be able to recognize and pronounce the letter Vv and its sound correctly Understand, recognize and say the three Vv words and write the letter Vv

- Vocabulary: Van, vase, violet

- Sight words: This, is, my, pretty

2 Skills: Listening, Speaking

3 Attitude: Educate Sts to love their lesson.Work hard

II TEACHING AIDS

1 Teacher’s: student’s and teacher’s book, phonics cards, cassette Phan mem I

learn smart

2 Students’: books, notebooks, workbooks.

III TEACHING METHODS

- Work in pairs , individual, in groups …

IV PROCEDURE

1 Class organization: (1’)

- Greeting: Good morning/ Good afternoon How are you?

- Checking for the students’ attendence:

2 Warm up : (5’)

Activity: Find it

- T prepare all phonics cards from the four previous units(Rr, Ss, Tt, Uu)

- T asks Ss to work in pair

- T give each pair one phonics card

- Say one of the words

3 New lesson: (30’)

* Activity 1: Listen, point, repeat Colour (8’)

- T use a card with letter Vv to introduce to the

students the new lesson

- Instruct students how to pronounce the letter

name and the letter sound by saying: “This is the

letter Vv The letter Vv says Vv.

- Ask Ss repeat several times and check students’

pronunciation

- T use the phonics cards with van,vase, violet

read the words out loud and have students repeat

a Vocab:

1 Listen, point, repeat Colour

(Show the task by using

sofware in the smart class)

- T uses gestures to help students to understand

the meanings of the three words

- Stick the cards on board and have students

repeat the words chorally several times (in the

correct order and then in any order)

- Call some students to say the words out loud

and correct their mistakes

- Ss say the words out loud

- Ask the students to colour in the letters

- Ss colour in the letters

Activity: Where’s the letter?(3’)

- Teacher prepares photocopies of a page/ pages

from some story books

- Ask the students to work in pairs

- Ss work in pairs

- Hand out the photocopies and ask students to

search for and circle the letter Vv on the page(s)

- In a limited time, the pair/ group has circled the

most Vvs is the winner.

Play Game

* Activity 2: Listen and point Choose (7’)

- T points to the van and say: This’s my pretty

van.

- Have students listen and repeat

- Have students look at the book and listen to the

words: van, vase, violet.

- T asks students listen and repeat the words for

several times

- Ask the students to look at the pair of pictures

on the side and colour the pictures

- Ss colour the pictures

- T go around the classroom asking students to

name the items they are colouring

E.g: T: (point to the van) This is my pretty ……

Student: van!

2.Listen and point

* Activity 3 : Chant and show (7’)

- Without music, use the phonics card and step

Vv to sing the chant with van Do the same with

umbrella and ugly

Activity 1: Writing in the air (5’)

- T show the letter Vv again, have students write

the Vv in air with their fingers.

- Ss write the Vv in air with their fingers.

UNIT 9: LETTER V Lesson 2 (4-5)

I AIMS

1 Knowledge

- By the end of the lesson, students will be able to practise the sound of the letter

Vv and the coresponding words Learn and practise reading skills and sing a

song

- Vocabulary: review

- Sight words: this, is, my, pretty,there, a, in

2 Skills: Reading, Listening, Speaking, Writing

3 Attitude: Educate Sts to love their lesson Work hard

II TEACHING AIDS

1 Teacher’s: student’s and teacher’s book, pictures, recordings Phan mem I

- T hold up the phonics cards, one at a time and ask individual students to

correct teacher’s statement

e.g Teacher: (hold the up phonics card) It is a van.

Student 1: No! It is a vase! Etc

- T monitors and correct their mistake

3 New lesson: (30’)

* Activity 1: Listen Read along (12’)

- T encourage the students to point to the picture

of the word that the teacher says

- T play the CD and ask Ss to listen to the story

once

- T play the CD again

- Ss listen and point to the pictures of the key

words when they hear them in the story

- T read the storyand ask Ss follow their books

- Teacher reads the printed words then let the

students look at the pictures and say the words

- Ss look at the pictures and say the words

- T ask students work in pairs One reads while

the other checks, then they change roles Or one

reads the printed words while the other looks at

the pictures and says the words

- Ss to work in pairs

Activity: Draw it (5mins)

- T divides Ss into 2 teams, A and B Ask two

students from each team to come to the board

- T names a vocabulary item In 30 seconds, the 2

students have to finish drawing it

- Ss who finishes first wins a point for his/ her

team

4.Listen Read along

(Show the task by using sofware in the smart class)

* Activity 2: Song (8’)

- Put the tree, tent, tiger cards up on the board

- T point to the tent, the tree and say: “There is a

v, v, vase in the van”

- The students repeat

- Follow the same procedure and present the

song

- T plays the CD The students listen and sing

along

- T play the CD again Ss sing and do actions

Activity: Pass the phonics card(5’)

- T line up the students in two teams

- Give the first student of each team a phonics

card

- Say: ‘Go!” then Ss say the words in the card

and pass it over their head to the student behind
