HOW TO READ THIS MANUAL

q KEY (Illustration Number)

Determine the required operation, shown on the time table, by using the key provided in the illustration The illustration is applicable to all model years therefore some parts are different in shape or

specification from the illustration in this manual.

w OPERATION NUMBER

The operation number is an 8-digit code made up of the four parts shown below.

1) Part 1 (PNC … Part Name Code)

This part indicates the part or component that is the subject of the operation PNC is established by the Service Department to classify parts by their function This numbering is applied to all models and model years.

2) Part 2 (Specification Variation)

This part indicates labor operations which may differ because of difference in vehicle specifications.

The repair times in this manual are given in hours and tenth of hours (e.g 3.2 for 3 hours 12 minutes) Enter on the Warranty Claim Form in the manner shown.

Refer to example 3 (page GI – 8) to calculate repair time for operations with add-ons.

r REPAIR TIME VARIATIONS

Repair times may vary within a model group, such as: DOHC, TURBO, CIS, etc.

When selecting repair times, add adjusted time for specification differences and options to the standard times When specifications are other than listed, repair times are substituted by standard times Refer to example 1 (page GI – 6).

t VENDOR CODE

In the case of a part of the same part number being supplied by more than one vendor, the vendor mark and vendor code are given to the part in the illustration When filing a warranty claim against such a part, enter the vendor code shown in this manual along with the vendor mark.

When a repair operation is performed, determine the operation number and repair time from the manual in the following manner.

Model: L3 engine without A/C

Repair performed: Replace all pistons

Step 1 Turn to “II: ILLUSTRATED INDEX”, and find the page number of “B05: CYLINDER BLOCK”.

Step 2 Turn to page B – 45 and find the operation number for PISTON, R&R, all.

CONSTITUENT OF REPAIR TIME

The repair time includes the following, with 0.1 hour (six minutes) as the unit:.

1 Repair time

Each repair time includes all of the time for making repairs, such as inspection, cleaning and adjustment All overhaul repair times include the time for removing and reinstalling All painting times (SRT) include the cost of materials and other expenses for a new panel.

B0101X-H-X ENGINE, OH

Includes removing and reinstalling engine; cleaning and checking disassembled parts; retightening

cylinder head bolts; adjusting valve clearance, carburetor, and ignition timing.

1) Time required to move the vehicle in question (drive-in, drive-out, etc.).

2) Time required to assemble necessary tools and parts for work and to return the tools to storage.

3) Time required for testing after repair.

4) Variation resulting from difference in mileage and operating conditions of vehicles.

HOW TO MEASURE REPAIR TIME

The repair times are determined based on the following conditions:

1 Technician

A person equivalent to an average technician who has attended training in the repair of Ford vehicles

and one who is not a specialist, familiar with only a portion of the repair work.

When there is no available PNC for applicable part, use the PNC of the component to which the part is
