Lesson: READING

A WARM UP

- Let Ss play a game : “ The secret box ”

Have Ss guess what there’s in the box by asking yes/no questions

to receive the teacher’s confirmation (suggestion : It is round)

- Give it to the student who’s first to find it as an award

- Ask Ss some questions to lead in the new lesson :

+ Do you like it ?

+ In which occasion do you usually receive gifts/presents ?

- Lead in the new lesson

B PRE-READING

- Have Ss look at the pictures from textbook and ask questions to

elicit new words

Picture 1 : a/ What’s she doing ?

+ blow out (the candles) :

Picture 2 : b/ Who are the main characters in this picture, the

grandparents, parents or children ?

c/ What party is it ?

+ wedding anniversary

In P1 Lisa is celebrating her birthday and in P2 Rosa and Luis are

celebrating their 50 th wedding anniversary

And now to understand more about these two parties, we’re

going to read the short passages.

C WHILE-READING

- Get Ss to be involved in what Task 1 requires

- Have Ss read the passage silently, then work in pairs to

complete it

- Go around and help if necessary

- Give feedback

Task 1 tell you some of the activities done in the parties To

understand the passages more intensively, you’re going to

correct the false information from the sentences of Task 2.

- Have Ss work in pairs and complete Task 2

At least once you had your birthday party in life or you might see

your parents or someone else had their anniversary party, so now

A WARM UP

- Play the cassette-player and let Ss listen to the song “ It’s your

birthday today”

- Help Ss sing the song after the tape and ask anyone who can

sing it again

- Ask Ss some questions to lead in the new lesson : + Where can

you sing this song ?

+ Have you ever been to a party ?

- Lead in the new lesson

B PRE-SPEAKING

You must have joined at least a party in your life and perhaps you

have many things to talk about it, so I now want you to think of a

party you’ve been to and choose from the list the things you want

to talk about.

- Have Ss do Task 1 in pairs.

- Feedback by marking the things most of the students want to

talk about on a chart

- Get Ss to pay attention to some useful expressions that can help

them to talk about the things exactly

Eg : The party was my friend’s birthday party

or It was on my grandparents’ anniversary party

There were a lot of beautiful decorations there

or I saw a lot of decorations there such as flowers, lights,

answering the questions from “Before you listen”

You perhaps have got some ideas of the activities taking place in

a birthday party and now I want you to listen to Mai’s birthday

party for brief information to decide True or False statements

- Give Ss one minute to go over the statements of Task 1 before

listening

- Play the tape for Ss to listen and mark

( after the first time, stop and check; after the second time, stop

and check; pause after each information relating to the

statements for Ss to check during the third time.)

- Have some Ss to justify the true/false statements again and

feedback

You’ve had the general information about Mai’s party through

task 1, but now you have to listen more carefully to get the exact

information for comprehension questions

- Have Ss go over the questions from Task 2 before listening to

the tape again

- Play the tape for Ss to listen

( after the first time, stop and ask if any answers can be

presented; after the second time, stop and ask all the questions

for Ss to answer; pause after each information relating to the

questions for Ss to answer If all the answers haven’t been found,

To help you develop your letter writing skill, to day we’re going to

learn how to write an informal letter of invitation.

During a birthday party we often eat foods that are not same as

what eaten in your daily meal, do you know what we eat ?
