I OBJECTIVES

After the lesson, students can learn, review and practice some important

grammatical points such as present progressive talking about the future and showing changes with get and become, and comparative and superlative

adjectives

II LANGUAGE CONTENTS

* Grammar: - present progressive

- comparative and superlative adjectives

* Difficult words and expressions: ship name(n), destination(n), time of

departure, status(n), delayed(adj), revised time, origin(n), time of arrival, balcony(n)

III TEACHING METHOD : Communicative Approach

IV TIME : 45 minutes

V TEACHING AIDS : Teacher’s and Student’s books, pictures, handouts,

projector,….

VI PROCEDURES :

WARM UP

- Ss play the game “Matching”

- T uses these sentences to present

some main gramatical points in this

lesson

- Ss observe and copy the structures

* Answers:

1 - c ; 2 - d ; 3 - a ; 4 - b

• Present progressive :

* Talking about the future:

S + am/is/are + V_ing

* Showing the changes with get and become:

S + am/is/are + getting / becoming + (comparative) Adj

• Comparative :

* with short Adj :

S1 + be + short Adj_er + than S2

* with long Adj :

S1 + be + more long Adj +than S2

Superlative :

* with short Adj :

S1 + be + the short Adj_est +(Noun)

S1 + be + the most long Adj +(Noun)

ACTIVITY 1

(present progressive: to talk about the future)

- T presents the situations, then

explains some difficult words and how

to practice Exercise 1, page 77

- Ss listen, read the exercise carefully,

then make similar dialogues in pairs

using the shipping information

- Ss give the answers

- T checks the answers

- T presents and explains Exercise 2

with the example as well

- Ss practice

- Some pairs practice aloud

- T checks and gives the correct

answers

1 Read the dialogues : (1a,b page 77)

* Present progressive :

S + am/is/are + V_ing

* Now make similar dialogues Use the

shipping information (p.77)

- Ss’ answers

2 Complete the dialogues Use the verbs in the present progressive tense:

* Example:

a) Nam: What are you doing tonight? Bao: I’m playing table tennis.

- Ss’ answers

* Answers:

b/ are doing c/ am watching d/ am going e/ are cleaning f/ am having

ACTIVITY 2

(present progressive: to show changes with get and become)

- T uses the example given to present

the structure and explain the exercise

3 Complete the sentences Use the verbs and adjectives in the boxes:

* Example:

a/ The boys are getting taller.

* Structure:

S + am / is / are + getting / becoming +

- T checks and gives the correct

ACTIVITY 3

(Comparative Adjectives)

- T tries to explain the exercise clearly

with example and structure as well

- Ss observe and practice the exercise

in pairs first

- Some Ss present their work aloud

- T checks and corrects Ss’ mistakes if

necessary

- T can give some more guiding

answers

4 Make comparisons between the city

and the country about these things The adjectives in the box will help you.

* Comparative:

S1+am/is/are+ than S2

* Example:

The food in the city is more expensive than the food in the country.

- Ss’ work

* Guiding answers:

- The entertainments in the city are better (than the entertainments in the country.)

- The medical facilities in the country is worse (than those in the city).

- The traffic in the city is busier (than that in the country).

ACTIVITY 4

(Comparative and superlative Adjectives)

5 Look at the advertisements Compare

the house, the villa and the apartment

short Adj_er more + long Adj

- T gives and reviews comparative and

superlative adjectives first

- Then T has Ss read the three

advertisements and use the adjectives

given in the box to compare the house,

the villa and the apartment

- T explains difficult words if

necessary

- Ss read the examples given

- Ss in groups speak and write down

their work into handouts, then stick

them on the board

- T checks and gives some guiding

answers if necessary

Use the adjectives in the box.(p.79)

* Comparative:

S1 + be + than S2

* Superlative:

S + be + the (Noun)

* Examples:

- The house is more expensive than the apartment.

- The apartment is smaller than the villa.

- The villa is the oldest home.

- Ss’ work

* Guiding answers:

- The villa is the most expensive.

- The apartment is the cheapest.

- The house is bigger than the apartment.

HOMEWORK

* Ss have to

- Copy all the exercises into their notebooks

- Review Unit 1,2
