A OBJECTIVES: By the end of the lesson, Ss will be able to:

I Knowledge: - Develop such listening micro-skills as listening for specific and detailed information

II Skills: - Listening, Speaking

B PROCEDURE:

I Settlement (2'): Check Ss' attendance

II Checking (5'): Call on 2 Ss to act out the dialogue of the previous lesson

III New lesson: Part C: LISTENING

I Warm up (5'): Hangman game

- Divide the class into 2 big groups and draws each of

them a gallows on the board

- Explain to Ss that they are going to play a

“Hangman” game The rule is T gives a secret word

and the groups will take turn to guess it by telling what

letters they think there are in this word If Ss choose a

letter that appears one or more times in the secret

word, the letters and their positions

- Lead the game, and in this lesson, the secret word is

“READING” T draws the same number of dashes as

the number of letters in this words in this words For

this words need 7 dashes like this:

- The activity will lead to the lesson naturally

- Work in groups

- Pay attention to how to play

- Listen

II Before-listening (8'): Brainstorming

- Get Ss to work in pairs to brain storm all the benefits

of reading books in 3 minutes

- Call on the pair with the biggest number of benefits

to give the answers

Pre-teaching vocab:

- Elicit / teach some of these words and those taken

from the listening passage

+ bygone (a): past

+ gigantic (a): very big, very great

+ ignorant (a): lacking knowledge, unaware of ST

+ to be fed up with:

+ to cope with:

+ jungle (n): tropical forest

- Help Ss to pronounce the words above and the words

given in the book

- Check that Ss know the meaning of these words

- Read aloud first or play the tape and ask Ss to repeat

the words in chorus and individually

- Set the scene: Now you are going to listen to a S talk

about his hobby

- Work in pairs to brain storm all the benefits of reading books in 3 minutes; + broaden our knowledge

- Listen and take notes

TASK 1: Instruction: You are going to listen to the

talk and decide whether the statements on p150 are

true (T) or false (F)

- Get Ss to read through the statements to understand

them and underline key words

- Get Ss to guess the answer to each statement and then

tell them they need to listen attentively to check if their

guesses are confirmed

- Play the tape twice for Ss to listen and do the task

- Get Ss to work in groups of 4 to compares their

answers

- Call on some Ss to give their answers and explain

- Check the answers with the whole class

- Play the tape one or two more times and pause at the

answers for them to catch

TASK 2: - Check if Ss can do Task 2 without listening

again

- Encourage Ss to read through all the passage and

identify the part of speech of the word to bee filled in

and if possible, predict the answers

- Play the tape again for Ss to listen and complete the

passage

- Get Ss to work in pairs and check their answers T

should play the tape again and pause at difficult points

if many Ss cannot complete the task

- Call on some Ss to give their answers

- Elicit feedback from other Ss:

- Read through the statements carefully and understand them and underline key words

- Guess the answer and listen attentively

- Listen and do the task

- Compares their answers with their answers

- Give their answers:

- Try to listen again carefully

- Read through all the passage, try to find answers

- Get Ss to work in groups of 4 to talk about the

disadvantages of over-reading

- Call on the representative of each group to come to

front and present his/her group’s work

+ becoming a bookworm

- Listen and take notes

IV Consolidation (3’) - Ask Ss to summarize the main point of the lesson

V Homework (1’): - Ask Ss to learn by heart all new words and the main ideas

- Ask them to prepare for the next lesson: Part D – Writing
