I AIMS AND OBJECTIVES:

LANGUAGE CONTENT :

- To teach the students some vocabulary relating to the passage

- To review the simple present

-Help the sts play with words

LANGUAGE FUNCTION :

- To talk about the differences between Vietnamese and American schools

EDUCATIONAL AIM :

- To make the students aware of the different cultures between Viet Nam and the USA

1 Language:

a Vocabulary: school uniform a 20-minute break cafeteria

snack after-school activity

b Structure: There is no school uniform

There are no lessons on Saturday

2 Skill: Integrated skills

3 Education factor:

- To respect American “school cultures”

- To preserve and bring into play the nation’s “school cultures”

II TEACHER AND STUDENTS’ PREPARATION:

1 Method: Communicative Approach

2.Techniques: Repetition, Explanation, Demonstration, Pairwork, Groupwork,

Using Pictures, Network, T/F, Asking and Answering

3 Materials needed: Textbook, chalks, tape, stereo.

4 Students’ preparation: Prepare vocabulary beforehand.

5 Previous exercises: exercises A 4 in the workbook (p 23).

III PROCEDURES IN CLASS:

1 Stabilization: 2’

a Warm up: Greetings

b Checking absence: Asks the monitor: Is there anybody absent today?

2 Checking up the previous knowledge:

Questions: Asks two students to ask and answer about their schedules.

Keys: Students’ answers.

I WARM-UP:

1 Sets the situation:

- Shows the picture in the textbook and

asks:

+ Who are there in the picture?

+ Where are they from?

2 Introduces and tells the aims of the

lesson:

- Says: Today you are going to learn

Unit 4: At School, Section A, Part 6,7

In this period you will read a passage

about schoolls in the USA to know

some differences between Vietnamese

schools and American schools

II PRE-PRACTICE:

1 Pre-teaches new words and phrases

following steps and principles of

teaching words

a school uniform (adj) (using pictures)

Ex: All of the students wear school

uniform to go to school in Vietnam

b break (n): (using examples)

After a long time of studying, we

usually have a break

-> A 20-minute break: a break lasts 20

minutes

-> two 20-minutes breaks

c cafeteria (n) (translating)

d after-school activity (using

examples)

Baseball, football and basketball are

after-school activities

e American football = rugby (n)

2 Checks understanding of new words:

Slap the Board

3 Divides class into groups of 8 Has

the students guess the information

- Observe the pictures and answer

- Listen carefully to the teacher

- Listen and repeat, guess the meaning and copy down

- Play the game

- Checks their answers and makes any

necessary corrections

- Two students read loud the passage

- Reread the passage and answer T/F in pairs

- Give their answers

- Work in groups of

8, discuss the differences between Vietnamese and American schools

- Each group sends one representative
