Reality TV is the fairly recent phenomenon of making TV programmes with ordinary people (and occasionally celebrities) One kind of programme involves people taking part

in contests in which they spend long periods of time in a house or some other setting where cameras monitor their every movement day and night members of the public then vote every day or every week for one contestant to be removed until only one is left, the winner These programmes are very cheap to make for the TV companies and have proved very popular, particularly as a source of material for tabloid press
