Pre-reading Lead-in:

-Teacher gives a picture of Hoa and asks some questions about Hoa:

-Where’s she from?

-Who is she staying with? Where?

-What grade is she in?

Answer: She’s in grade 7, she goes to junior high school And Hoa is Tim’s penpal

Teacher explains new words: junior high school, penpal

Today Hoa has a letter from Tim He lives in America

He is in grade 7, too

Task 1: Tell me what Tim write about?(scanning)

While-readi ng

Ss do task 1 after the first reading Tim write about American students’ activities at recess

Task 2 : What do students in America do at recess?

Ss listen to the tape the second time.and answer

-New words suggested by Ss: energetic, take part in, score goal, shooting some hoops, CD player, common.
