1 Asking for the time

Some common question to ask for the time

- What time is it?

- What is the time? Bây giờ là mấy giờ?Các câu hỏi này được dùng phổ biến trong tình

huống đời thường

Hỏi thời gian trong những tình huống trang trọng hoặc giữa những người mới gặp nhau lần đầu tiên thì dùng những câu hỏi sau ( vẫn với nghĩa ‘Bây giờ là mấy giờ”

- Do you have the time?

- Do you know what time is it?

- Could you tell me the time?

Khi muốn hỏi mấy giờ bạn làm gì, ta dùng cấu trúc:

- What time + TĐT + S + V ?

Ex: What time do you get up?

What time do you have English class?

Lưu ý:

- Để cho câu hỏi trở lên lịch sự hơn, chúng ta thêm từ: Excuse me.

2 Stating the time

1 Giờ chẵn: It’s + số giờ+ o’clock (sharp)

Ex: It’s ten o’clock (Bây giờ là 10 giờ)

It’s five o'clock sharp (Năm giờ đúng)

2 Giờ có phút kèm theo

a/- Trong giao tiếp hàng ngày (evervday English): Ta dùng

It + be + số giờ+ số phút

Ex: It’s eight fifteen : 8.15 (8 giờ 15)

It’s ten twenty-two: 10.22 (10 giờ 22)

b/- Trong cách nói trang trọng (formal English)

- Dùng “past” để nói giờ hơn và

“to” để nói giờ kém

- Ta dùng “a quarter” thay cho 15’ và

“half past” thay cho 30’

■ Khi số phút nhỏ hơn 30: (giờ hơn) It + be + số phút + past + số giờ

Ex: It’s ten past seven: 7 giờ 10 It’s twenty-five past three: 3 giờ 25

■ Khi số phút lớn hơn 30: (giờ kém) It + be + số phút tới giờ kế + to + giờkế

Ex: It’s ten to five: 5 giờ kém 10 (4 giờ 50) It’s six to eight: 8 giờ kém 6 (7 giờ 54)

■ Khi số phút bằng 30: It + be + half past + số giờ

Ex: It's half past eleven: 11 giờ 30 (11 giờ rưỡi)

■ Khi số phút là 15, ta có thể dùng a

quarter thay thế

Ex: It’s fifteen past nine = It’s (a) quarter past nine: 9 giờ 15

It’s fifteen to ten = It’s (a) quarter to ten: 9 giờ 45

B Present progressive tense

1 Forms

(+): S + be + V-ing + …

(-) : S + be + not + V-ing + …

(?): Be + S + V-ing + …

- Yes, S + am / is / are

- No, S + am not / isn't / aren't

Chia tobe tương ứng với chủ ngữ

Eg: I am studying Physics

2 Uses

1/- Hành động hay sự kiện có tính tạm thời hay đang xảy ra ở thời điểm nói.

Ex: Tom is staying with his uncle in the city (Tom đang ở cùng với bác trong thành phố)

Please don’t make so much noise I’m working (Xin đừng làm ồn quá Tói đang làm việc)

2/- Dùng theo sau câu đề nghị, mệnh lệnh.

Ex: Look! The child is crying

Be quiet! The baby is sleeping in the next room

3/- Diễn tả hành động gây bực mình khó chịu

Eg: He is always smoking at home

4/- Diễn tả chiều hướng thay đổi

Eg: My English is getting better

3 Identifying Signal

- Now

4 Spelling

- Nếu động từ tận cùng là e đơn thì bỏ e này đi trước khi thêm ing (trừ các động từ : to age (già đi), to dye (nhuộm), to singe (cháy xém) và các động từ tận từ là ee

Ex: come > coming

- Động từ tận cùng là 1 nguyên âm ở giữa 2 phụ âm thì nhân đôi phụ âm cuối lên rồi thêm ing Ex:

run > running

begin > beginning

- Nếu động từ tận cùng là ie thì đổi thành y rồi mới thêm ing

Ex: lie > lying

- Nếu động từ tận cùng là l mà trước nó là 1 nguyên âm đơn thì ta cũng nhân đôi l đó lên rồi thêm ing

Ex: travel > travelling

C Demonstrative adjective ( tính từ chỉ định)

Tính từ chỉ định khác đại từ chỉ định

Bốn tính từ chỉ định: This, That, These, Those

Cho chúng ta biết vị trí của vật là ở đâu và số lượng của vật là bao nhiêu.

Tính từ chỉ dịnh dùng để chỉ sự vật và sự việc trong không gian và thời gian This / That : Đứng trước N đếm được ở

dạng số ít.

This + N chỉ người/ vật ở vị trí gần

người nói

That+ N chỉ người/ vật ở vị trí xa người

nói

Eg: (+) This is a/ my book

That is my class

(?) Is this your book? – Yes, it is

(?) Is that your pen? – No, it isn’t

Those / These : Đứng trước N đếm được ở dạng số nhiều.

Those + N chỉ người/ vật ở vị trí gần người nói

These + N chỉ người/ vật ở vị trí xa người nói

(?) Are those your pens? No, they aren’t
