Unit 12: The Asian Game

Period 22 : Listening

Time alloted: 45’

Class: 11B6

Teacher in charge: Nguyễn Thị Thuý Hương

Training teacher: Nguyễn Thị Kiều Oanh

I Aims: by the end of lesson, Ss will be able to:

- listen to a monologue for general or general or specific information

- use the information they have listened to for doing exercises: multiple-choice questions and comprehension questions

- know more about the history of the Asian Games held to develop intercultural knowledge and friendship within Asia

II Skills: Listening, writing

III Lexical items: coming live (n), freestyle (n) , gymnasium, land (v),

bar (n), gymnast (n)

IV Teaching aids: textbook, pictures, cassette

V Anticipated problem:

- Some weak ss can’t get the necessary information to do the tasks

- Some ss can choose randomly without listening when doing multiple choices

VI Procedure:

arrangement

1 Warm up:

(5 mins) Game:- Divide class into 4 teams

- Ask ss in each team go to the board and write the games played in the Asian game Which team lists more than the others is winner

- Check with the whole class

- Announce the winner

• Lead in: say: today, we will know more about the Asian game after listening

2 Pre- listening

(10 mins)

a Vocabulary:

- coming live (n ) (translation)

• Ask ss: how do you say “truyền hình trực tiếp” in English?

• Get the answer from ss

• Speak out the word 2 times

• Ask ss to repeat chorally

• Call some ss to repeat individually

• Correct

- freestyle(n) () Show the picture and say: look at the picture, what’s style of swimming?

- gymnasium(n) (picture) Show the picture and ask what is this?

- land (v) (translation) Ask ss “how do you say “xoi dat” in English?

- bar (n) (explanation) Say: people often come here to drink

* Check vocabulary: Jumble words

- Ask 2 ss go to the board and write the words correctly

Activity 2: Question and answer

- Ask ss to read the question in textbook carefully

- Help them to listen effectively: listen and take notes the key words for the answer

- Ask ss to listen 2 times

- Ask ss to exchange their answer with their classmates

- Call some ss to read out their answer

- Ask ss listen to the last time and check the answers

Expected answers:

2 they have won six gold medals

3 he took part in the long jump twice

5 he looked very disappointed

4 Post listening

(5mins) - ask ss write a short paragraph about the Asiangame (100 word)

- go around and take note the important mistakes of ss

- call 2 people to read their paragraph

- correct and comment

(5mins) - ask ss to learn the new words- ask ss to do the part “after you read” and

complete the short paragraph

- ask ss to prepare next lesson

- get ideas from ss about lesson
