I/ Aim:

By the end of this lesson, Ss will be able to get to know about weather, understand the information in a weather forecast

II/ Language contents:

* Grammar review: The future simple tense

* Vocabulary: experience, central highlands, delta, earthquake, tornado, thunderstorm,

snowstorm, typhoon, volcano

III/ Techniques: Guessing game, Pairwork, Groupwork.

IV/ Teaching aids: Cassette player, Pictures.

V/ Procedure:

1 Warm up (5 mins)

- T guides Ss play “Guessing game”

+ We know whether it is doing to rain or

to be sunny if we watch this program

+ It is usually broadcasted on TV after the

news

+ It stared with letter w.

* Answer: weather forecast

- T asks Ss some questions:

+ Do you usually watch the weather forecast?

+ Do you think weather forecasts are truthful?

+ …

- T presents the new lesson: Unit 9 Natural

disasters.

2 Presentation (10 mins)

- Then T asks them to match the words with the

pictures in page 74 (Pairwork)

- Ss match and compare with friends

- T calls them give their matching and

comments, corrects

* Getting started

- T asks them to give some words which tell the

natural disasters by using pictures and

explainations * New words:- thunderstorm ['θʌndəstɔ:m](n): bão

3 Practice (21 mins)

- T tell Ss to look at the picture page 75 and

answer: In which program do you see this

picture? (in the weather forecast program)

- T sets the context: Thuy is talking to her

grandmother while they are watching a weather

forecast on TV Now please look at the book and

listen to the disk.

- T plays the disk twice

- Then T asks Ss to practice the dialogue in a

group of three (3 minutes)

- T calls them read the dialogue in front of class

T corrects the pronunciation and intonation

* Ss read the dialogue again in silence, then fill

each blank with one word or phrase from the

dialogue (Group work)

- T calls tem present the completed sentences

- T gives correct answers

- Ss read the correct answer

a) Practice the dialogue in a group of three.

b)Fill each blank with one word or phrase from the dialogue.

* Completed sentences:

4 Production (7 mins.)

- T asks Ss to look at the map and tell the

weather forecast

- T gives cues:

a) Areas to the north / 35- 38

b) The south – central coast / be / rain

c) The central highlands / sunny / occasional

showers

d) The Cuu Long Delta / thunderstorm

5 Homework (2 mins)

- Learn the new words by heart

- Practice the dialogue again

- Do exercise b) again

- Prepare Lesson 2: Speak + Listen

II Speaking (20 mins.)

- T asks Ss to work in small groups, read

the list and check what preparations should

be made for a typhoon

- Ss compare their choice

- T calls some read their answers

- T collects ideas and comments

3 While- speaking (12 mins.)

- Then T asks them to read the box of part

b) and explains the request of part b)

- Ss work in group (4 groups) and discuss

these topic:

Group 1: buy candles and matches

Group 2: fill all bucket with water

Group 3: check all the windows and door

Group 4: tie the roof to the ground with

pegs and ropes
