UNIT 13: ACTIVITIES

SECTION A: SPORTS

Period 85: A1, A2

I Objectives:

To help students:

- To know the popular sports in the USA

- To talk about sport activities

II Language contents

1) Vocabulary: skate boarding, roller-skating, rollerblading

2) Grammar: adverbs and adjective

III Techniques: reading, listening, writing and reading.

IV Teaching aids: a cassette, a tape recorder, text books, pictures.

V Procedure

Warm-up

Activity1(A1)

-T asks student to close the book and guides students to play game:

“NETWORK”.

-T divides class into 2 teams: team A and term B team A uses green chalk, team B uses yellow chalk

-T asks students to go to the board and write as many sports as they can

Which team gives more correct names

of sports will win

-Sts do as directed -T corrects

-T introduces the lesson -T asks students to match names of sports to the pictures(book closed) -Sts do as directed

-T asks student to answer the question:

“Can you guess what sports American teenagers like most?”

-Sts Answer -T “In that, what is the most popular sport American like most?”

-Sts answer

-T introduces A1 -T asks students to open the books

-T asks students listen to the tape

-T lets students listen to the cassette 3 times

-Sts listen to the cassette attentively

-T asks students to give new words

-T explains some new words

-T compares “roller-skating” and

“rollerblading”

-T guides students to read new words -Sts read after teacher

-T asks students to read new words

-T asks some students to read

-Sts read -T corrects

-T reads the text (twice)

- Survey (n): sự khảo sát -Teenager (n): thanh thiếu niên -Surprise (v): làm ngạc nhiên Surprising (adj): ngạc nhiên Surprisingly (adv): ngạc nhiên -Result (n): kết quả

-Baseball (n): bóng chày -Skateboarding (n):môn lướt ván -Roller-skating (n): môn trượt patanh (giầy có bánh xe nằm dọc dưới đế dày)

-Rollerblading (n): môn trượt patanh (sử dụng giầy trượt có bánh xe ở bốn góc)

-Choice (n): sự lựa chọn -Even though : mặc dù -All round the world: trên khắp thế giới

-Athletics: điền kinh

Then T asks students to write name who answers “like…best” in column Name

-T stops the game on time and asks student to give out the survey
