5 Measuring conditions f or set top boxes (STBs)

5.1 Ov rview of a s t to box

STBs are devices that p rorm the tas of providin au io, vide an related services f rom

variou bro d ast, nar owcast an bro db n platforms They can exist as stan alone

devices or as an integral p rt of a network Althou h original y they were analog e in nature

more recently, STBs are typical y as ociated with digital television services

Recent STBs have in lu ed variou en an ed f un tionalty s c as recordin The me s rin

method des rib d in this clau e only covers STBs that have either HDDs or sol d state

memory for recordin In the case of sold state memory this method covers the STB whether

or not the memory is remova le STBs with remova le media, a art f rom sol d state memory,

are not covered by this method

5.2 Input signal

In general terms, input sig als s al b of the stren th an q al ty for the typ of bro d ast

5.2.2 RF test signal

For digital ter estrial, satel te an ca le TV STBs, the test sig al s al b comprised of a

multiplexed tran p rt stre m mod lated with p rameters that ref lect the typical en ironment in

whic the STB wi b u ed The vide an au io comp nents of the tran p rt stre m s al b

as des rib d in 5.2.2.2 an 5.2.2.3 For analog e ter estrial TV, satel te TV an ca le TV
