Trang 71 Scope
This stand rd specifies the method used for the
determination of optical dev iation caused to a beam
of l g ht p s ing throug h a transp rent element
material perpendicular to the optical a is of the
sy stem
2 Definition
For the purposes of this stand rd, the folowing
definition a pl es:
Optical dev iation is defined as the ang ular dev iation
of a beam of lg ht emerging fom a transp rent
material comp red with the direction of the incident
beam
3.1Optical sy stem of point l g ht sour e, c os -wires,
focusing lens, specimen holder and a s re n
3.2 Upon the s re n are traced concentric cir les of
specified ra i such that they cor espond to ang les of
dev iation of 1,5; 3,0; 6,0 and 10,0 min tes of ar
relativ e to the distance betwe n specimen and
s re n
The ra ius r of each cir le is g iv en b the formula:
r = 0,291 d.D
where:
The Ta le 1 shows v alues of r cor esponding to d
ex res ed in min tes of ar and ra ians for two
v alues of D
Ta le 1
4 Specim ens
The specimens are the elements themselv es
5 Procedure
5.1 The specimens shal be tested after careful
remov al of surace dust b wiping with a l nt-fe
cloth
5.2 The optical sy stem is set up so that the imag e of
the c os -wires is focused onto the s re n and
coincides with the centre of the concentric cir les
The test specimen is interposed betwe n the
c os -wires and the s re n at distance D f om the
s re n
5.3 The dev iation is display ed as the mov ement of
the imag e f om the centre of the concentric cir les to
one of the z nes defined b the concentric cir les
specified in 3.2
5.4 The specimens shal be s an ed at interv als
of10 mm in mutual y perpendicular directions
( unles otherwise specified)
6 Expres ion ofresults
The v alues of the dev iation shal be recorded and
g ra hical y represented in order to esta lsh the
relation betwe n their position and their direction
on the test specimen
7 Test report
The test report shal include the folowing
information
— n mber of this stand rd;
— des ription of the sampl ng method;
— n mber of test specimens used;
— dimensions of the test specimens used;
— indiv idual v alues of the optical dev iation and
their presentation in a diag ram ac ording to 6;
— observ ations on any cir umstances la le to
influence the results
r is the ra ius of cir le, in mi imetres;
d is the dev iation, in min tes of ar ;
D is the distance betwe n specimen and
s re n, in metres
Min tes of ar Ra ians D = 5 m D = 8 m
