1 Scope

This BritishStand rd specifies req uirements for

restraining dev ices for sep rate use, i.e.as

indiv id ual eq uipment, b chid oc up nts of motor

v ehicles, who hav e a mas of les than10kg , in

conju ction with a car y cot which ma or ma not

comply with this BritishStand rd ( se 3.3.4) It is

intended to red uce the prob bi ity of injury to

chidren in an ac id ent This stand rd a ples to

d ev ices intended for use in the forward -facing rear

seating positions in the v ehicle or in the

forward-facing f ont seating positions in such

v ehicles as lg ht commer ial v ehicles where there is

a equate sp ce for a car y cot to be car ied

transv er ely

Manufacturing req uirements are specified for the

materials used and for the finish of buckles and

other rig id p rts

Tests are specified for the d etermination of the

streng th and dura i ty characteristic of the

restraining dev ices and of their components The

stand ard do s not specify req uirements for the p rts

of the v ehicle to which these restraining d ev ices are

anchored

Two g roups of restraining d ev ices are d ealt with:

GroupA for g eneral use with any car y cot, and

GroupB incorporating a specialy d esig ned car y

cot that forms an integ ral p rt of the sy stem

to the v ehicle with p rticular reg ard to the

anchorag e being on a suita le p rt of the v ehicle

structure which shal be reinfor ed if neces ary ;

b) the method of operating the buckle( s);

c) the method of operating the a justing dev ice;

d ) the intended location of the buckle( s);

e) the recommended methods of cleaning the

stra s;

f) the ne d to replace the d ev ice when it has be n

used in a sev ere ac ident or when the stra s

show sig ns offay ing or hav ing be n cut;

g ) a g eneral warning to the user of the d ng er of

making any alterations or ad ditions to the dev ice

without the a prov al of the man facturer;

h) a warning that the dev ice should not be used

without the seat restraining d ev ice [which

should be ar ang ed to restrain any folding arm

rest( s)]

j) a warning that, as the v ehicle seat restraining

dev ice is d esig ned only to lmit the forward

mov ement of the seat b ck, in the ev ent of an

ac id ent it ma not withstand the inc eased

loa ing caused b lo se articles striking the b ck

b) the name, trad e mark or other means of

id entification of the man facturer;

c) a statement to the efect that the mas of the

oc up nt of the car y cot with which the dev ice is

intend ed to be used shal be not g reater

than10kg

1)

Marking BSAU1 6 on or in relaton to a prod ct is a claim b the man facturer that the prod ct has b en man factured to

the re uirements of the stan ard.The ac uracy of such a claim is therefore solely the man facturer’s resp nsibiliy Enquiries as

to the a aila iliy of third p rty certficaton to sup ort such claims should b ad res ed to the Director,Qualiy Assurance

Div ision,BSI,May lan s Aven e, Hemel Hempste d,Hefts HP2 SQ for certficaton marks administered b BSI or to the
