1 Scope

This International Stand rd specifies the main

characteristic of M18× 1,5 sp rk-plug s with

conical seating and their cy lind er hea housing , for

use with sp rk-g nition eng ines

3.1 Terminals

The sp rk-plug terminal ma be either the sold

post or the threa ed ty pe A sp rk-plug with

thread ed terminal on which a n t is a pl ed shal

respect the dimensions specified for sp rk-plug s

with sold post terminal Se Fig ure 1

3.2.1 Lengt h dimensions

3.2.2 Dimensions o spark-plug housing in

cyl nder head

The leng th d imensions Z and9mm ma in the

cy lind er hea are measured f om a g auging plane

The Z leng th of the sp rk-plug housing in the

cy linder head shal be suficient to ensure that the

end of the sp rk-plug threa do s not project into

the combustion chamber at any point when the

sp rk-plug is tig htened to the ma imum torque

specified in3.4

3.2.3 Threads

3.2.3.1 Spa r k-plug a nd cylnd er hea d

The threa s of M18 ×1,5sp rk-plug s and the

cor esponding ta ped holes in the cy lind er hea

shal conform to ISO6 , ISO261, ISO9 5-1 and

ISO9 5-3 Their l miting d imensions and their

tolerance clas es shal be as specified in3.2.3.1.1

and3.2.3.1.2 respectiv ely

3.2.3.1.1 Limi ing d imensions

The tolerance clas es of threa M18 × 1,5 of finished

sp rk-plug s an of the cor espond ing ta ped holes

in the cy linder head shal be as folows:

— 6H for ta ped holes in the cy linder hea

NOT 1 In order that sp rk-plug s complying wih this

Internatonal Stan ard can b fi ed in e istng he ds also in

e treme cases, the v lue for the ma imum tru caton of the

minor diameter of the sp rk-plug ase has b en slig htly red ced

wih resp ct to the ISO v lue

This ma imum v lue of the minor diameter is calculated fom a

d istance of H/ 6 for the ma imum tru caton inste d of the v alue

g iv n b the formula in ISO9 5-1:1 8 , clause 1, ac ording to

the formula g iv n b low:

The v lue for the b sic profile remains the same as for the

ISOthre d ( 16,3 6 – 0,0 7 = 1 ,3 9)

thread tolerance clas of the terminal

3.3 Other dim ensions of spark- plug and

housing in cylnder hea

The contour of the insulator is optional; howev er,

betwe n the reference planes d efined for

sp rk-plug s with sold post terminal b the

d imensions29mm and3 mm, an for sp rk-plug s

3.4 Instal ation tig htening torque

The instal ation torque v alues a ply to new

sp rk-plug s without lubricant on the thread s I

thread s are lubricated, the torq ue v alue shal be

reduced b a proximately one-third to av oid

ov er tres ing The sp rk-plug s shal be tig htened

with a torque of20N·m to3 N·m in cast iron
