the font of commer ial roa v ehicles and buses ( as
defined in ISO3 3 ) of ma imum total authoriz d

the use of ropes, ca les or b r , at the choice of the
man facturer, al owing the v ehicle to be towed, or
otherwise mano uv red b other v ehicles, or to be
used for mano uv ring other v ehicles It excludes
at achments for emerg ency operations, e.g recov ery
of road v ehicles after an ac id ent

4 Location ofa ttachment
The at achment shal be instal ed at the font of the
v ehicle an shal not project in the horiz ntal plan
bey ond the exterior contour of the v ehicle ( bod y plus
bumper ) except during towing
5 Shape
5.1 The sha e of the at achment is left to the
d is retion of the man facturer, subject to the
condition that it shal comply with the req uirements
g iv en in this International Stand ard
It shal permit the at achment of ropes, ca les or
b r for towing , without the aid of special to ls or
auxi ary p rts
It shal permit a displacement of±5 ° of ar
horiz ntal y and±6° v ertical y of the ends of towing
d ev ices ( ste l rope or b r), fixed betwe n the towing
and the towed v ehicle
5.2 The at achment shal not d mag e the rope, ca le
or b r d uring towing
Any detacha le p rts shal be secured so that they
can ot be lost
During operation the rope, ca le or b r shal not
come lo se
5.3 The sha e should permit the use of the b r as
d es ribed in ISO1 02, if the manufacturer ag re s to
the use of b r for towing the v ehicle
6 Streng th
The at achment shal be desig ned to withstand a
static for e with a v alue at least:
a) for g oods transport commer ial
v ehicles;
b) for p s eng er transport
commer ial v ehicles ( buses)

7.1 Test conditions
The v ehicle shal be a propriately immobi iz d, at
ma imum authoriz d total mas or at complete
v ehicle kerb mas as specified b the v ehicle
man facturer, on a firm horiz ntal surace
The v ehicle man facturer is alowed, if he d esires,
to car y out the test on the bod y or on the chas is of
the v ehicle in total or in p rts, prov ided that it is
fixed rig idly to the bench with at achment lnks to
the f ont suspension and prov id ed the p rts in the
sur ou ding area of the towing dev ice are in place
7.2 Test proc dure
7.2.1 The towing at achment shal be subjected to
two tests: one with a static compres iv e for e and
the other one with a static tractiv e for e equal to the
for e defined in6a) or6b) These for es shal be
a pled prog res iv ely
7.2.2 Both tests shal be car ied out horiz ntaly in
the long itud inal v ehicle direction
7.2.3 At the choice of the man facturer, complance
with the test ma also be v erified b calculation
After each test car ied out as specified in clause7,
the v ehicle shal me t the req uirements set in8.1
and8.2
8.1 The at achment shal show no deformation
