The method desc ibed is a q altative t es useful for a st eel surfac , befor cleaning, cor esp n ing

t o rus grade A, B or C as def ined in ISO 8 0 -1 It can be used as a “ pas / fai” t es or t o pro ide a

pe manent r cord of the d s pr sent on a surfac

5 A pparatus and materials

5.1 Adhesi ve tape, consisting of r ols of virtualy colour les , transp r ent , self-ad esive, pr es

ure-sensitive ta e of width 2 mm, ha ving an ad esion pe l s r eng th of at leas 1 0 N/m width when

measur ed in ac or danc with the 18 ° pe l tes in IEC 6 454-2

NOTE T is pe l test cal s for a 1 0° pe l from ste l b cking at a pe l rate of (3 0± 3 )mm/min

6.2 This method is suita le for the as es ment of d s r etained, afe cleaning , on a s e l surfac which

corr esp n ed befor e cleaning to rus g rade A , B or C as defined in ISO 8 0 -1 Be ause of the lmited

elasticity of adhesive tape, it is not p s ible for the tape to penetrate into the de p pit pr esent in cleaned

s e l that orig inaly corresp n ed to rus g rade D

6.3 Whie a tes pr oc d re in which pr es ur e is a pled to a ta e using the th mb is subje tive, it is

usualy adeq ate, espe ialy for use in situations wher e surfac s fr ee fr om d s ar e r eq ir ed In cases of

dispute, exc pt when rus g rade C or D is inv lved, pr es ure ma y be a pled to the b ck of the ad esive

usualy red ish-brown or black, sometimes with the presence of dis rete visible particles, depen ing on the ty e

of a rasive used when blast cle ning T e dis oloration is caused by mic os opic d st rom the test surface that

can cause serious interference with paint ad esion
