Trang 3What occurs on these grounds each day is amazingly unique To begin with Mass each day calms the youthful spirits of a generation so acclimated to the distractions of technology, and to initiate the day with a deep and serious focus on God and the Sacraments is to dispose the children toward God The availability of Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament each week and access to confession each month, likewise instills habits of silent reflection, prayer and examination of conscience deep within these young souls, making it much more natural and ordinary for them as they mature to focus on what is important in life, not only what is merely urgent.
It would be easy to take for granted the culture of Sacred Heart Academy as something ordinary But you and I know it is not ordinary, nor accidental nor easy It is exceptional, indeed rare, and is the result of a great deal of careful planning and coordination
It is also the result of a spirit of generous sacrifice It is the sacrifice of the faculty, most all of whom could find higher salaries commensurate with their talents elsewhere And, of course, it is the result of the sacrifice of families who in effect pay twice for the children’s education: first in their taxes and second in their tuition Perhaps part of that equation will change some day, but for now it is the reality we face.
This means that even more sacrifice is required, which is what this event is about It provides a fun and playful backdrop for the very serious business of building a counter-culture of intellectual, spiritual and moral formation that will last a lifetime – indeed, I pray, an eternity
I know you have various other commitments and responsibilities, and like all of us, limited resources So, please be as generous as possible and as generous as is reasonable Keep in mind,
as well that with this event, we will go on to a two-year cycle.
I would also ask that you both pray for Sacred Heart Parish and Academy, and let others know what is happening
on the West Side of Grand Rapids It is very much a story worth telling.

Heart to Heart Table MASTER OF CEREMONIES
We are excited to welcome back to our Sacred Heart Auction, Casey Jones!
Casey joined the 24 Hour News 8 sports department in August 2012 after working as a multi-media journalist in South Bend, Ind.
In August 2015, he was announced as the co-anchor of “24 Hour News 8 Daybreak” weekdays which airs from 4:30 a.m to 7 a.m.
A Grand Rapids native, Jones went to West Catholic High School and then to Grand Valley State University where he earned a bachelor’s degree in broadcast journalism.
For two years, he was a part-time member of the WOOD TV8 sports department before accepting the job
at the FOX affiliate in South Bend, working extensively to cover Notre Dame sports, including Fighting Irish football.
“When you grow up watching a station and get into the business because of the people who represent that station, it’s really surreal to think that you’re now a part of that pedigree,” Jones said “I’ve always imagined myself at WOOD-TV and it’s a dream come true to be back home.”
