Lesson 1: Parts 1, 2.

I Objectives:

By the end of this lesson, students will be able to:

+ Use the words and phrases related to the topic: Festivals.

+ Ask and answer questions about popular festivals, using the pattern When is + festival? It’s

on ………

II Linguistic content:

1 Vocabulary: Tet, New Year, Children’s day, teachers’ day, Christmas

2 Patterns: When is + festival?

- Cassette, student’s book, pictures, large-sized sheet

IV Procedure:

CONTENT AND ACTIVITIES TEACHER’S INSTRUCTIONS

1 Warm up: (5ms)

- T asks SS to show the picture of their

family and talk about their family members

- T controls and observes the presentation

- T remarks and praises SS

2 New lesson: (2ms)

- Get SS to open their book

- Check Ss’ comprehension about the new

unit

- Introduce the new lesson

Part1: Look, listen and repeat (8ms)

- Get Ss to identify the characters in each

picture

+ Who are they?

- Set the context

- Teach the new words using the pictures

+ smart: lịch sự

- Please talk about your family members using the picture of your family Who can

- Now let open your book on page 30

- Do you know what we are going to learn about?

- Today, we are going to learn about festivals through unit 15: When’s children day?

- You are going to read a story to find out how to ask and answer questions about popular festivals

- Ask SS about their task in part 2

- Set the context

- Using the pictures in part2 to review and

teach the new words:

+ New Year: năm mới

+ Teachers’ day: ngày nhà giáo

- Have Ss read the new words a few times

- T points to the first picture and model with

one student

- Now, please listen to me and repeat the new words

- Please listen to the conversation between Mai and Tom

- Now, listen and repeat sentence by sentence

- Now, listen to me and repeat

- Read the whole dialogue again please

- Let practice with your partners

- I’d like some pairs to act out the conversation again

- If we want to ask and answer questions about popular festivals, we can use the pattern to ask them

class and give them some pictures to ask and

festivals

Part 3: Listen and match (12ms)

- Have Ss open the book, page 31

- Tell the task of Ss

- T points to each picture and check SS’

comprehension

- Play the recording for Ss to listen

- Have SS compare the answers together

- Call some Ss to report their answers in front

of class

- Play the recording for SS to listen and

check their answers

- T remarks and gives the coreect answers

- I’d like to check up the old lesson You work in pairs to ask and answer about the popular festivals using these pictures

- You are going to listen to three dialogues about the popular festivals and tick the correct pictures
