Speaking-Listening - Writing

I OBJECTIVES: By the end of this review, Ss will have revised the language they have learnt and the skills they have practised in Units 4 -6.

1 Knowledge: - To revise the language and skills they have learnt in Unit 4-5-6

- practice reading for specific information about one’s favourite kind of music;

- practice talking about a visit to a lower secondary school;

- practice listening for specific information about a meal at a restaurant;

- practice writing a paragraph about a meal at a restaurant

- pronounce the sounds /ʃ/, /ʒ/, /ɒ/, /ɔ:/, /tʃ/ and /dʒ/ correctly;

Vocabulary: Ss revise the words related to music and arts; food and drinks; school facilities and school activities;

* Everyday English

- express preferences;

- ask and answer about prices;

- ask for details

b) Grammar :use comparisons; use some, a lot of, lots of; use prepositions of time and place;

c) Writing :- Writing an informal letter of invitation; Writing a paragraph about the eating habits in your area ; Writing a paragraph about an outdoor activity at your school

2 Competence : Develop communication skills and cultural awareness

- Develop communication skills and creativity

- Be cooperative and supportive in pair work and teamwork

- Actively join in class activities

3 Qualities :- Raise students’ awareness of the eating healthily; the benefits of outdoor activities

1 WARM UP & INTRODUCTION (5’) Aims: Introduction

- By the end of this review, students will have revised the language they have learnt and the skills they have practised in Units 1 – 3

- Ss revise what they have learnt so far in terms of language and skills Summarise their answers and add some more information if necessary

* Content: Having some warm-up activities to creat a friendly and relaxed atmostphere to inspire

Ss to warm up to the new lesson

* Outcome: Having a chance to speak English

lessons and class

2 PRESENTATION/ NEW LESSON (25’) PRACTICE EXERCISES - SKILLS

ACTIVITY 1 : Reading

Aim: To help Ss practise reading for specific information.

* Content: Practise reading Choose the correct answer, A, B, C

* Outcome: SS get more general and specific information of the text

* Organisation : Teacher’s instructions…

1 Choose one appropriate option (A, B, or C)

to fill in each gap of the paragraph.

Have them read the paragraph carefully and

decide the correct option (A, B, or C) to fill in

each gap

Go through the options Ss have done Guide

them how to choose the correct options

Check their answers as a class

Invite a few Ss to read aloud the complete

paragraph in front of the class T may comment

2 Work in pairs Imagine you have just

visited a lower secondary school Ask and

answer the questions, using the following

suggestions.

Ask Ss to imagine that they have just visited a

lower secondary school so that they can form

their own ideas of where the school is, how

many teachers and students there are, what

school facilities are, what school outdoor

activities students do

Let them read the questions to focus on the

information they are going to answer

Have Ss then work in pairs, asking and

answering the questions provided Ask them to

add more questions, such as what they think

about the teachers and students and how they

feel about the visit

Go round and support Ss if needed

Call on some Ss or pairs to present their ideas to

the class

2 Work in pairs Imagine you have just visited a lower secondary school Ask and answer the questions, using the following suggestions.

My name’s Mai I’m in class 7A of Hung Vuong Lower Secondary School It is in the centre of the city My school was founded in 1957 So it’s one of the oldest lower secondary schools in the city There are more than two thousand students and 40 teachers Most of the students are friendly and intelligent They are also hard-working They’re very active too The teachers are all well- qualified and friendly The school has some modern facilities such as: a new sports hall, a science centre, labs and a music centre To attend the school, students have to pass an entrance exam and an interview They

do lots of outdoor activities such as playing badmintons, growing flowers and vegetables in the school garden I love my school very much.

ACTIVITY 3 : Listening

Aim: to help Ss practice listening for specific information

* Content: Listen and complete to each sentence

* Outcome: Ss listen and can complete the sentence correctly

* Organisation :

3 Listen to a man talking about his meal at a

restaurant and tick (v) the adjectives you

hear.

Allow Ss some time to read the words /

adjectives Check if the words / adjectives are

new or not Check comprehension, if necessary

Play the recording once for Ss to listen and tick

the words / adjectives they hear Allow Ss to

swap their answers Play the recording again for

Aim: To help Ss practise listening for specific information.

* Content: Write complete sentences to make a passage

* Outcome: Ss can write complete the passage about community activities

* Organisation :

4 Listen again and fill in each gap with ONE

word.

Have Ss read the note Draw their attention to

the meanings of the words: starter, main dish,

dessert, drink

Play the recording once or twice for Ss to listen

and complete the note Allow Ss to swap their

answers before checking as a class

If there is time, let a few Ss say what the man

ordered at the restaurant

4 Listen again and fill in each gap with ONE word.
