Seniors
UC Waitlists - All campuses, except Merced and
possibly Berkeley, will use waitlists for their
freshman pools Davis, Irvine and San Diego will
have a transfer waitlist, and Riverside will have a
transfer waitlist for a small population of applicants
Santa Barbara is considering the option for transfers
What students need to know:
They might receive waitlist offers from more than one campus Students can be on more than one waitlist, but they will only be allowed
to accept one offer for admission
Once offered a spot on a waitlist, students must opt in by the stated deadline Instructions for doing so will be included with the waitlist notification
Freshman applicants:
The waitlist opt-in deadline is April 15 (for all participating campuses)
Waitlist notification status will be made
no later than June 1
UC campuses strictly adhere to all stated deadlines
Even if they accept a waitlist offer at a UC campus (or several), students should submit a Statement of Intent to Register (SIR) by the stated deadline to a UC campus or other institution to which they have been accepted,
to ensure they have a place to attend in the fall

Trang 2UC campus where they have been waitlisted, they will forfeit their deposit at the first campus and must submit an additional SIR and enrollment deposit
UC Santa Barbara will send preliminary financial aid awards to students who opt in to the waitlist UCLA and UC San Diego will provide financial aid awards once students are admitted from the waitlist For all other campuses, preliminary awards will be sent at the time students are notified of waitlist offers
SIRs of waitlisted students will be considered
on time for purposes of housing and orientation provided they are submitted by the deadline stated in the offer of admission
California applicants who are guaranteed admission through ELC or the statewide admission index, and don't receive an admission offer from any campus to which they applied, will be in the referral pool even if they are on the waitlist at another campus
Campuses will still consider appeals received
by the deadlines specified below Applicants who feel they have grounds for an appeal should submit one, but they should keep in mind that the purpose of the appeal process is
to address compelling new information or correct a possible oversight in the initial review Students cannot appeal for a spot on the waitlist Freshman appeal deadline: April
15 (March 29 for Santa Cruz)
UC Analytical Writing Placement Exam
-Saturday, May 11 exam for students entering in the
Fall 2013 Students are not required to take the
AWPE if they have a record on file indicating
achievement of acceptable scores on 1) SAT
Reasoning Test, 2) the ACT combined
English/writing test, 3) AP English Language or
Literature Examination Students are also exempt if
they have successfully completed transferable college

Student engagement, participation, intellectual curiosity
Professors - Clarity, enthusiasm, can they teach?
Homework expectations What do current students tell you about the faculty?
How many classes are taught by TAs and not professors?
Curriculum, content:
What courses must you take?
What entrance exams are expected of you?
How do they count AP High School classes, etc.?
What is the average graduation time - 4 yrs or more?
How flexible is it; is it interdisciplinary?
Study abroad - how is it arranged, do you pay extra or is it covered? Do schools have their own study abroad and do professors travel with the students?
Where do you see yourself hanging for the next
4 years?

Case Studies Night for Juniors and Parents

workshop "On How to Write an Effective College
Essay" This will be facilitated by Sandra Brod
Students will meet in room 23 at 12:55 Both
sessions cover the same material Sandra will share
her expertise as a former UC Berkeley admission

Sports Info Night - May 1, 7 pm in the
Library Jennifer "JT" Thomas, College Counselor
at Maybeck High School and former NCAA Division
1 coach, will speak on college athletics: helping the
athlete find the best college fit, explaining all the
divisions and conferences available and providing
strategies for students to market themselves to
coaches, programs and schools After hearing from
Ms Thomas, parents and students will join break
out sessions for specific sports to gain additional
sport-specific information This talk is for student
athletes and their parents (Student athletes
interested in all divisions are welcome)

internship or a job Colleges like to see that you can
transfer an interest into the world and beyond the
classroom Or, if you have a special academic

Sophomores Work on these things

Develop learning strategies/plan for taking SAT and/or ACT
SAT Subject Tests - Sophomores can also take
SAT subject tests in May or June, at the end of the
