STUDENT COMMUNICATIONS ASSISTANT
The Feed the Future Sustainable Intensification Innovation Lab (SIIL) at Kansas State University aims to produce measureable impacts on reducing global hunger, poverty, and improving the nutrition of smallholder farmers in Bangladesh, Cambodia, Ethiopia, Malawi, Tanzania, Burkina Faso, and Senegal The SIIL recognizes a need to better communicate the activities and
successes resulting from the program, and thus is seeking an exceptional student to serve as the SIIL’s Communication Assistant We are hopeful that this position will be a mutually
beneficial experience for the student hired and our Innovation Lab
POSITION DESCRIPTION
The Communications Assistant will aid the SIIL management entity in creating and executing the Lab’s communication strategy This will entail developing a regular newsletter, maintaining the program website, designing promotional materials, and engaging with a wide range of stakeholders through various web-based platforms Additionally, the Communication Assistant will assist with special events, such as the SIIL Annual Meeting and guest lectures
Applicants must be comfortable utilizing written communication skills on a daily basis and should be willing to spend significant time at the beginning of employment learning about sustainable intensification and the SIIL’s research portfolio Opportunities to design and lead photography, videography, and/or social media efforts for the Innovation Lab will be made available for the appropriate individual
The ideal candidate would be willing to commit to working 15-20 hours/week during the
2019-20 school year Schedule flexibility is available for students taking summer classes This
position’s base wage is $9.00/hr and will be negotiable based on experience and qualifications
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
• Demonstrated interest in international agricultural research and development
• Excellent written communication skills
• Ability to work independently and in a team setting
• Willingness to engage and share ideas with other members of the SIIL management entity
• Computer skills, including Microsoft Office, website maintenance, and/or social media platforms
• Experience with Adobe Creative Suite is a plus
