I Objectives: By the end of the lesson, the students will be able to:

-Use lexical items related to traditions, cultural characteristics

-Read for specific information about weddings in Viet Nam

-Compare traditions and customs between two countries and discuss those in

Viet Nam

-Listen for key information about the wedding traditions

II Teaching materials: textbook, LCD projector, blackboard, miniboard, power

point slides, colored chalk.

Warm-up: From the picturaes, guess which

countries do these traditional wedding dress(es)

come from.

Set the scene: We have seen a lot of pictures of

traditional wedding dresses in many countries,

-T asks Ss to guess which countries do these wedding dresses come from

-T gives more clues if Ss have no idea about the country

-T shows Vietnamese weddings in VietNam and elicits Ss from these pictures by asking set the scene questions -T leads in

Activity 3: Read the conversation again and

answer the questions

Activity 4: Role play a short conversation

about weddings in Viet Nam and present to

the whole class.

Kevin: Hi Maria, Can I ask you some questions

related to the topic ceremonies? I have an

assignment on that topic.

Maria: Okay, maybe I can help you.

Kevin: Well, How many ceremonies are there,

Maria? What are they?

Maria: There are three main ceremonies which are

proposal ceremony, engagement ceremony, and

wedding ceremony.

Kevin: How about the costumes of the bride and

groom on the engagement and wedding day?

Maria: Hm Let me see….They choose Ao dai and

Vietnamese traditional clothes on these days Have

you set down all the information?

Kevin: Yeah………… One more question What do

people do on the wedding day?

Maria: As tradition, the groom's family would make

a trip to the bride's home with a gift of betel nuts to

officially ask permission to receive the bride and
