III Grammar

1.The past simple and the past continuous

Eg: They were sleeping when the dam broke.

The past continuous is used to talk about a past action in progress, and the past simple to talk about a shorter action that interrupted it

Eg: Hoa was always playing game on cell phone.

That past continuous can be used with always, constantly to describe repeated or irritating actions or events in the past It is similar to “ used to” , but usually has negative meaning.

Put the verb in brackets in the past simple or the past continuous.

- ‘the’ is used before name of musical instruments.

- Before names of oceans, rivers, seas, deserts, ranges of mountains, islands groups.

- Before geographical areas, name of countries with ‘kingdom or state’.

- Before name of organizations, museums, hotels, important building, newspaper, mass media, the unique objects, transport systtems.

- Before adjectives used as nouns, people of a country
