Lesson 5: Communication

A Objectives : By the end of this lesson, students will be able to:

1 Knowledge : - Use lexical items to describe past practices.

2.Skills: - Develop ss’ skills of reading , communication and do exercises.

3 Attitude: - Know the way to decribe about “ Life in the past”

4 Competence and quality:

* Competence:

- capable seft-learning, problem solving, capable creation, capable communication, capable cooperation,physical capacity,capable beauty, T- WC, group work, pairwork,

individualwork

*Quality:

- Love life andEnglish speaking countries, responsible life (có trách nhiệm cuộc sống),

live autonomy(sống tự chủ)

+ Vocabulary: - The lexical items related to the topic “Life in the past”

+ Grammar: - Use the “Wishes” the present and review : “Used to”

C Teaching aids.

+ Teacher: - T’s books, tape, sub -board, pictures, cassette.

+ Ss: - Ss’ books ,vocabulary.

I/ Warm up.

* Braistorming

- Divide 2 groups.

- Have Ss to give many activities in the

past

- T compares and check then give others

II/ Newlesson.

* Pre - teaching

- Teacher use different techniques to

teach vocabulary (situation, realia)

- Follow the seven steps of teaching

vocabulary

- Repeat in chorus and individually

* Extra vocabulary.

- domed (n) : vòm (v) : Làm khung tròn

- arctic ( adj) : (thuộc về) Bắc cực

- treat (v) : đối xử, cư xử

- unmarried sisters (n) :chị em chưa lập gđ

- dogsleds (n) : xe chó keó

* Checking vocab: Matching

* Activity 1:

- Lead Ss through the discussion of the

Qs

- Encourage Ss to give any or all ideas

- There are no wrong these answers at

this stage

b Before SS read, check their

understanding of the words in Extra

Vocabulary by drawing simple pictures,

giving definitions or examples of

usaged

- Have SS read individually

- Refer to the answers in 1a and see if

the their guesses are correct

* Activity 2

- Have Ss read the definitions and look

for the words in each story

- They may do this individually or in

pairs

* Activity 3.

- This task encourages Ss to use their

critical thinking skills to find

explainations for the Qs

- Ss will consequently gain a deeper

understanding of what life was like for

these people

- Have Ss work in groups

- Encourage them to use their

imagination and background knowlegde

to explain some information from the

stories

- Ss share their opinions with the class

- T acts as a facilitator

* Activity 4.

- Have Ss work in groups to match the

responses with the stories

- Ask them to underline the key words in

the responses which help them do the

matching

* Activity 5.

- Ask Ss to work in small groups and

work out a story of their own

- Make sure Ss include the necessary

information in the story as suggested in

1 a Look at the 4Teen website abd discuss the Qs.

LOOKING BACK

- Ss answer

1.b Read and correct the answers.

2 Read and find the words which mean:

* Key.

3 Work in groups and discuss the Qs.

* Suggested answers:

1 It was difficult to reach the villagers on the mountain / There were no other means of transport avilable

2 Trer were no school in the villagers / The nearest school might be too far away.

3 There were no other materials available in that deserted land / There were no easy means

to transport materials from other places ti the island.

4 It was impossible to build a big house with several rooms in the ice and snow./ People felt safe living in communal groups.

5 Work out a story for the Looking Back competition Then present it to your class.

* Decide:

- What aspect of life you want to talk about
