Back to the woods
Some schools in Switzerland have
outdoor* lessons in the woods.
The very first outdoor school is
called San Gallo It is in northern
Switzerland Children stay in the
woods from 9 in the morning
until 4 in the afternoon.
When it rains or snows, they wear
waterproof* clothes and walking
boots During* their lessons they
play, cook, write, talk and learn
about nature ‘in nature’!
In India and in Birmania
Children in many Indian
schools learn Kathakali.
This is a very ancient philosophy* and it is based* on music and dance Children learn
to communicate their feelings with their eyes and their faces.
In Birmania, children give their teachers a coconut on their first day of school!
Afghan girls!
In Afghanistan, girls couldn’t go
to school because their families and the government only wanted boys to be educated*.
Now, the situation is different and lots of girls can go to school.
This means that women can have
an education and learn to read and write Why do you think it is important to read and write?
Have you ever
wondered* what
school is like in other
countries?
For example, what’s it
like to go to school in
Afghanistan or
Sudan? Let’s find* out
together.
Sudan: war and school
Sudan is a war-torn country Many people have fled from their homes because they are frightened* But many people have stayed because they have nowhere* else to go UNICEF, the children’s charity, has set*
up special camps where children can get an education.
