1 General

Site Clearing work shall be undertaken in accordance with Section 02100 of the General Specifications This work describes the clearing and grubbing, removal of vegetation, shrubs and debris, removal of trees and removal of top soil within the limit of work except those existing object which shall be designated to remain in writing by the Engineer

Accurate quantity will be calculated after confirmation by the Engineer and completion of working drawing

Demolition works shall be undertaken in accordance with Section 02200 of the General Specifications and some items shall be carried out simultaneously with site clearing works This work shall be carried out adjacent to roadway and within the limit of the cleared area This item generally consists of the removal and disposal in whole or in part and parcel of structures which were not designated by The Engineer to remain such as the remaining part

of previously demolished building, existing fence, hedges, pavements, sidewalks, curb and gutter and other existing structures which may obstruct the execution of the new structure Proposal of subcontractor will be submitted separately

2 Quantity

Estimated quantity (bidding quantity) is as follows But they are only for reference The design quantity will be made from approved working drawings The actual quantity will be confirmed by the Engineer and will be shown in As-built Drawing

4 Equipment and Tools

Site Clearing and Demolition works of this project will be divide into five (05) section along alignment plan And equipment and tools for each section are to be as in Table 1 below

6 Construction Method

All existing objects and materials on the surface of the ground, which were not allowed and designated to remain, shall be removed, cleared and or grubbed Clearing and grubbing shall include buried timber and, rotten wood, rubbish, grasses, vegetation, brushes and other protruding objects and obstructions within the designated limit of work Trees and brushes with a diameter smaller than 200mm shall be under this item Depth of grubbing shall be approximately 200mm below the surface of the original ground and at least 300mm below the bottom of the lowest pavement layer

In areas where existing waterways will encroach and Road Embankment will be undertaken, clearing of pits, existing channels and ditches shall be carried out by excavation Grown vegetation and in placed unsuitable or soft material shall be taken out prior to embankment works If required and necessary existing waterway channels shall be diverted from locations of embankment or temporary drain shall be constructed The depths of cleaning and grubbing shall be carefully checked and care shall be performed to prevent damage for the sub soil of Embankment Cleared channels and waterways shall be filled with acceptable backfilling materials and compacted as required

All trees within the designated limit shall be cut and removed Stumps, roots and of trees shall be grubbed and removed to a depth of at least 80cm below the original ground surface and at least 80cm below the bottom of the lowest pavement layer in areas under roadway Embankment for which topsoil and unsuitable materials are to be removed

In roadway cut areas stumps and roots shall be grubbed and removed to a depth at least 50cm below the bottom of the lowest pavement layer Removed material shall be stocked to

a designated area After removal of roots, voids, and cavities shall be filled up and compacted with suitable material as required

Topsoil that will be designated to be removed shall be sufficiently fertile to stimulate and nourish the growth of vegetation Removal of topsoil shall be done to the depth approximately 20cm below the original ground level and at least 30cm below the bottom of the lowest pavement layer In area where mud exists, it shall be taken out to the full depth of mud or otherwise as directed by the Engineer prior to placing of Embankment Depth of removal shall be carefully checked and care shall be performed to avoid damage subsoil Removed topsoil shall be kept and stockpiled to a designated area and separately from other excavated material if required and necessary

Top Soil that shall be removed Existing Ground

Topsoil will be remove to the depth approx 20cm

To be removed to its full or sufficient depth in case mud exists

6.4 Demolition Works

Prior to demolition works, working drawing will be submitted separately and approved by the Engineer Demolition shall only be carried out upon the approval by the Engineer including the confirmation of the objects to be remaining Confirmation and approval from related authority maybe deem and necessary In such cases, procedure shall be undertaken based on regulation Following items stated below are considered for removal and designated not to remain Holes and cavities left caused by structure removal shall be filled with acceptable backfill material to the level of surrounding ground and if within prism of construction, it shall be compacted in accordance to Specification Section 03400

“Embankment Construction” in General Specifications All demolished material will be stockpiled separately

6.4.1 Removal of Curbs, Pavements and Footpaths

Existing curb shall be removed including its bases Likewise existing asphalt or concrete pavements shall also be removed It shall be carried out considering not damaging existing pavement and curbs, which are designated to remain

Irrespective of their thickness or nature, all asphalt or concrete pavements, footpaths, or other hard surfaces designated for removal, shall previously be broken into pieces, the size

of which shall not exceed 300 mm in any dimension, and be transported and disposed at the location designated by the Engineer, if not, it shall be disposed under the Engineer’s instruction Removal of pavements shall be carefully undertaken to avoid damage to abutting sections of pavement or structures designated to remain If the pavement or foothpath or other hard surface portion to be removed has dimension of less than 10m3 or if

it is necessary to excavate balast rock, gravel or similar materials for subbase or base courses, this work is deemed to be “unsuitable material” as specified in Specifications item

Prior to the removal and dismantling, approval and confirmation from Road Management unit maybe deem and necessary In such cases, procedure, which is stipulated under regulation, shall be applied if required Relocation and temporary setting outside construction area shall be carried out if necessary Detailed method and description about the previously stated work shall be submitted separately

6.4.2 Removal of Traffic Signs

Traffic signs including its accessories and steel frames shall be carefully dismantled and removed including its base and foundations Before proceeding with the removal and dismantling, approval and confirmation from Road Management unit maybe deem and necessary In such cases, procedure, which is stipulated under regulation, shall be applied if required Relocation and temporary setting outside construction area shall be carried out if necessary Detailed method and description about the previously stated work shall be submitted separately

6.4.3 Removal of Building and others Structures (Bridge, Culverts …)

Confirmation and approval from related authority shall be undertaken prior to removal of the above stated structures Existing Bridge and Culverts shall be removed within the limit

of the new structure and area shall be sufficient to accommodate the execution of the new structure Usable material if necessary and required shall be stored separately Detail description of the demolition shall be submitted separately as Working Drawing

Operations necessary for the removal of an existing structure or obstruction, which may damage new construction, shall be completed prior to placing the new work, unless otherwise instruction of the Engineer

6.5 Disposal of Cleared and Demolished Material

Cleared and demolished material shall be disposed after approval and confirmation by the Engineer The roadway and adjacent areas shall be left with a neat and finished appearance acceptable to the engineer No accumulation or stockpile of cleared and demolished material shall remain on or adjacent to the given alignment of Right of Way limit

All the material resulting from the demolition of existing structures, or obstructions, shall be removed from the Site in accordance with the requirements for “Unsuitable Material” stipulated in Specification Section 03100 “Common Excavation”, unless otherwise instruction of the Engineer

7 Inspection and Test Plan

The Inspection and Test Plan is to be referred to Appendix I and Checklist sheets for Site Clearing and Demolition are to be referred to Appendix II

8 Safety Control

“Safety Control Plan” shall be submitted separately and shall be part of this method statement Prior and during the execution of Site Clearing, basic safety precautions shall be implemented to work efficiently and to prevent any accident or casualties

9 Environmental Control

“Environmental Management Plan” shall be submitted separately and be part of this method statement Responsibility for surrounding environment shall be implemented during Site Clearing works and in compliance to the Condition of Contract and Vietnam’s National Law

on Protection of Environment and other relevant legislation such as: Government Decree No.175/CP, Government Decree on providing Guidance for the Implementation of the Law

on Environmental Protection, 1994

If any other problems occurred in the site, applicable counter measures or prevention action shall be considered immediately and executed as soon as possible

At the management level, these matters shall be controlled by the respective Construction Manager, and implementation by the respective Site Engineer
