The following procedure outlines the creation of cotter pin containing family table information – see above The modeling of cotter pin is done using Sweep protrusion
CREATING A SWEEP PROTRUSION FOR COTTER PIN
From Insert pull down menu, select
Sweep -> Protrusion
Create the following trajectory
Sketching plane – FRONT datum plane
Orientation reference – TOP datum plane

Note that this is a closed section The resulted sweep protrusion is shown below:
Setup parameter NOM_SIZE by selecting
From Tools pull down menu, select
Parameters

Enter Parameter name: NOM_SIZE
Type of parameter: String
Enter value for parameter: dia
MODIFYING DIMENSION SYMBOLS
Right click the swept protrusion, then select Edit.
Double click the trajectory of the sweep, and while hold down Ctrl key, double click the section of the cotter pin

Select Dimension Text tab
in Dimension Properties

Change the Name to
HEAD_DIA Click OK

From Tools pull down menu, select Relations Double click the cotter pin in the graphics area to show the dimensions
Select All
Enter the following relations

from 0.06 to 0.09, and regenerate Change back the HEAD_DIA to 0.06, and regenerate ,
CREATING A FAMILY TABLE
From the Tools menu, select Family Table which will open the Family Table
dialog box
Select the Add icon in order to add items to the family table

Parameter The Select Parameter dialog box opens
Pick parameter NOM_SIZE, then click the Insert Selected
Click the Cancel icon

Under Add Item, Click Dimension Pick the part in the graphics area The dimensions of the part will be displayed

be controlled in the family

Pick the dimensions ∅.032,
∅.06, 010 and .125 as Add Item

is the name of the generic part
Pick the
Insert icon in the Family Table dialog

instance with 0.0781” nominal diameter

EXPORTING A FAMILY TABLE TO A TEXT (.pdt)
From the Tools pull down menu, select Family Table which will open the Family Table dialog box
Click File
-> Export Table -> Textual Family Table
Trang 15The Save dialog box opens Click Save to save the Family Table information in the working directory and in the default file name e.g
cotter_pin_tmp, or enter a new file name and navigate
to the directory in which you want to store the file
The system saves the file with the .ptd extension Outside Pro/E, open and print the file
EDITING A FAMILY TABLE TEXT FILE – COTTER_PIN_TMP.PTD
Use text editor to edit family table text file For Windows system, Notepad is the text editor
Delete the unnecessary texts, and re-arrange the information as shown below

CREATE A DETAILED DRAWING WITH A FAMILY TABLE
Create the following drawing as shown below
Trang 17INSERT A FAMILY TABLE INTO THE DRAWING
From Insert pull-down menu, select Note
Trang 18Click File under Note Types menu
Click Make Note Select a location for the note of Family Table to appear e.g upper left corner of drawing area
In the file browser, make sure to change the type of file to All Files (*), and select the Family Table file e.g cotter_pin_tmp ptd The Family Table appears on the drawing
Click the Open button
