Description The DS3 Fiber Loop Converter (DS3 FLC) is an alternative to high bit-rate DS3

multi-plexers, allowing an economical last mile DS3 transport or a point of presence hand off The DS3 FLC is a plug and play system that can be configured to maximize facilities utilized for point-to-point or point-to-multipoint topologies and can be optioned for 1:1 protection The DS3 FLC supports the following applications:

• DS3 Hicaps

• DS3 Point of Presence (POP) Hand-off

• DS3 Video Transport

• DS3 ATM Transport The DS3 FLC is a single, modular system All functions are integrated onto a single printed circuit board The modular system eliminates common equipment, reduces spare inventory costs and simplifies circuit provisioning and installation Unlike M1/3 multiplexers, there is better utilization for transporting a clear channel DS3 A maxi-mum of four protected systems or eight unprotected systems can be hubbed out of one universal eight position rack mount chassis

The DS3 FLC can be installed anywhere in the network: a central office (CO), a con-trolled environmental vault (CEV), a hut, an outside plant cabinet, or at the customer premises The same DS3 FLC module is interchangeable for the central office terminal and remote terminal and for either working or protect channels One module fits all locations and applications making troubleshooting easy and keeping spare inventory costs to a minimum

The DS3 FLC can be installed in a variety of universal chassis mounting options At the remote end, the FLC customer premises wall mount chassis is perfect for handing off DS3 hicaps to end users All four slots can be dedicated to DS3 FLCs to provide either two protected or two unprotected DS3 hicap circuits ADC’s two position rack mount chassis houses either one protected or one unprotected DS3 circuit The universal eight position chassis will accommodate four protected DS3s or eight unprotected DS3s A fully configured unprotected DS3 system is the ideal solution for distance learning applications or DS3 ATM transport Any combination of ADC Dual Fiber Loop Convert-ers, Quad Fiber Loop Converters and DS3 Fiber Loop Converters can be deployed in the universal chassis allowing the user to mix services and enhance system flexibility
