Trang 8# Exchange and Windows 2000
! Dependencies on Windows 2000 Components
! Extending Active Directory
Before you install Exchange 2000 should understand the extent to which Exchange 2000 depends on Windows 2000 and Active Directory
Topic Objective
To outline this topic
Lead-in
There are several issues
that you should consider
before installing Exchange
2000
Trang 9Dependencies on Windows 2000 Components
Active Directory
Computers running Windows 2000 Server that host Exchange 2000 must be part of an Active Directory domain All computers running Exchange 2000 in the same Exchange 2000 organization will also be in the same Active Directory forest There can only be one Exchange 2000 organization per Active Directory forest
If you are installing a server running Exchange 2000 into an Exchange Server 5.5 site, the Exchange 2000 Active Directory Connector (ADC) must be installed and running before you install Exchange 2000 During installation, the Exchange 2000 Setup program confirms whether the Exchange 2000 ADC has been installed by checking the configuration partition of Active Directory
There are two versions of the ADC—one that comes with Windows 2000 and another that comes with Exchange 2000 The Windows 2000 version of the ADC does not support Exchange 2000 coexistence with Exchange Server 5.5
IIS
Because Internet Information Services (IIS) provides all of the Internet message transport protocols for Exchange 2000, IIS is a very important Windows 2000 component The protocols that IIS provides by default, such as Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) and Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP), are extended by Exchange 2000 Setup to support the advanced features of Exchange 2000 Other protocols, such as Post Office Protocol version 3 (POP3) and Internet Message Access Protocol version 4 (IMAP4), are added to IIS when you install Exchange 2000
integrates with the domain
security model provided by
Windows 2000
Note
Trang 10MAPI is not a message transport protocol and is not provided by IIS MAPI clients connect directly to the Information Store
NNTP
The Network News Transfer Protocol (NNTP) must also be installed on all computers running Windows 2000 that will host Exchange 2000 NNTP is an optional component included with Windows 2000 During Windows 2000 Setup, you can choose to install NNTP during the networking phase of Setup by
selecting the optional component under Internet Information Services You
can also add NNTP to a Windows 2000 installation after setup is complete by
using Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel
If NNTP is not installed you will not be able to install Exchange 2000 The Exchange 2000 Setup program will issue a warning and exit NNTP is required because Exchange 2000 uses NNTP to access public folders on NNTP hosts
Note
Trang 11Extending Active Directory
Windows 2000
Config Schema Group User
Create
Exchange 2000
Because Active Directory is a core component of Exchange 2000, Exchange
2000 Setup extends portions of the Active Directory to accommodate Exchange
2000 functionality
Active Directory Schema and Configuration
Exchange 2000 Setup extends the Active Directory schema to support new object classes and attributes specific to Exchange 2000 Because Active Directory has a single schema, the schema update process only occurs once When you prepare the forest for Exchange 2000 or install the first computer running Exchange 2000 in a forest, Exchange 2000 Setup makes changes to the schema and configuration partitions of Active Directory
You can use ADSI Edit, an application in Windows 2000, to modify the Active Directory schema and configuration partitions
Default Groups and Permissions
Exchange 2000 Setup creates two Active Directory groups These groups enable computers running Exchange 2000 to access Active Directory The two groups are:
! Exchange Domain Servers A domain global group that contains all servers
running Exchange 2000 in the domain
! Exchange Enterprise Servers A domain local group that contains the
Exchange Domain Servers groups from all the domains in the enterprise Exchange 2000 Setup also grants permissions throughout the Exchange 2000 organization to the user who established the Exchange 2000 organization After the setup is complete, this user can use Exchange System Manager to delegate permissions on the Exchange 2000 organization to other users and groups
Trang 12Supporting Pre-Windows 2000 Security
When you create an Active Directory domain using the Active Directory Installation Wizard, you have the option to support permissions compatible with pre-Windows 2000 servers You can choose between two options:
! Permissions compatible only with Windows 2000 server This option
does not allow accounts logged on with Anonymous access the ability to view group memberships and other user and group information
! Permissions compatible with pre-Windows 2000 servers This option
allows accounts logged on with Anonymous access the ability to view group memberships and other user and group information In addition, this option allows existing applications, including Microsoft BackOffice® applications like SQL Server™ and some third party applications, to function correctly
If you choose the Permissions compatible with pre-Windows
2000 servers option, you will receive a warning while installing Exchange
2000 This is because a pre-Windows 2000 security group is created during Active Directory installation that allows members of the Everyone group to view the hidden membership of distribution lists However, you can choose not to select this option when installing Active Directory You can also choose to remove the Everyone group from the security group and assign access to user accounts used by legacy applications to access hidden membership of Active Directory distribution lists

Pentium 300 or Greater
Exchange 2000 runs only on Windows 2000 Server, Windows 2000 Advanced Server, or Windows 2000 Datacenter Server The computer that will run
Exchange 2000 must meet the following minimum hardware requirements:
! Computer with Pentium-compatible 133-megahertz (MHz) or higher processor (300 MHz or more recommended)
! 128 megabytes (MB) of RAM (256 MB recommended)
! 500 MB of free hard disk space on the drive where you will install Exchange
! 200 MB of free hard disk space on the system drive
! CD-ROM drive
! VGA monitor The hardware requirements for your organization may be different from the minimum requirements Your organization’s Exchange 2000 design architecture should contain the hardware requirements that meet your organization’s needs
Before you install Exchange 2000, you should set the Windows 2000 page file
to twice the amount of installed RAM It is also recommended you install Exchange 2000 on an NTFS file system disk partition
Topic Objective

and software requirements
for installing Exchange
Trang 15Preparing the Forest Using /forestprep
Modify Modify
The command-line setup switch /forestprep prepares the Active Directory
forest for Exchange 2000 by making several modifications to the Active Directory schema and configuration without installing Exchange 2000 The
/forestprep switch also grants the first Exchange 2000 administrator (user or
group) permissions for the Exchange 2000 organization You must run setup
with the /forestprep switch in the same domain as the Active Directory schema
master, which is, by default, the parent domain
To run the Exchange 2000 Setup program with the /forestprep switch, type
X:\setup\i386\setup.exe /forestprep at the command prompt
Advantages of Using /forestprep
The /forestprep switch offers two main advantages for administrators
implementing Active Directory and Exchange 2000:
! By running Exchange 2000 Setup with /forestprep early in Active Directory deployment, the changes made by /forestprep can be deployed
along with Active Directory
! Changes made to the Active Directory schema and configuration partition must be made by an administrator who is a member of the Enterprise Admins and Schema Admins group This is usually a very small number of administrators in a Windows 2000 organization, most likely not including
Exchange 2000 implementers Using the /forestprep switch enables an
Active Directory administrator to prepare the Active Directory forest without installing Exchange 2000 If joining an existing Exchange server 5.5 site, the user running setup must be an Exchange server 5.5
administrator
Topic Objective
To prepare the Active
Directory forest for
Exchange 2000
Lead-in
Use the /forestprep setup
switch to prepare the Active
Directory forest for
Exchange 2000 installation
Trang 16Additional Considerations
! It is recommended you run Exchange 2000 Setup on the Active Directory schema master so that schema updates can be made locally
! If the first Exchange 2000 server is installed without preparing the forest
using /forestprep, the user installing Exchange 2000 will have to be a
member of the Schema Admins and Enterprise Admins groups This is
because Exchange 2000 Setup will perform the /forestprep steps to prepare
the forest
! If you misspell /forestprep, standard Setup will be run In this case, Typical appears as the Action for Exchange 2000 You will have to cancel the
installation and run Setup again with the switch spelled correctly
! Preparing the forest with /forestprep can be a lengthy process It is normal
for the schema and configuration updates to take a considerable amount of time

Exchange 2000
You can prepare the Active Directory domain for Exchange 2000 by using the
/domainprep command-line setup switch The /domainprep switch makes
several changes to the domain to prepare it for Exchange 2000 without
installing Exchange 2000 Setup must be run with the /domainprep switch by a
user who is a member of the Domain Admins group for that domain
To run the Exchange 2000 Setup program with the /domainprep switch, type
X:\setup\i386\setup.exe /domainprep at the command prompt
Advantage of Using /domainprep
The /domainprep switch:
! Creates an Exchange Domain Servers domain global group that will contain all computers running Exchange 2000 in the domain
! Creates an Exchange Enterprise Servers domain local group that will contain all the computers running Exchange 2000 in the enterprise
! Grants these two groups appropriate permissions on various containers in the domain
! Creates a user account named EUSER_EXSTOREEVENTS for use with the script event host This user account has minimal permissions, less than the guest account, so it cannot access anything in the store, file system, or directory

The Exchange 2000 organization and administrative group structure is established during Setup The name of the Exchange 2000 organization will be
established during /forestprep and cannot be changed Each Active Directory
forest can contain only one Exchange 2000 organization
Administrative Groups
If you coexist with an Exchange Server 5.5 site, your administrative group structure will match your Exchange Server 5.5 site structure If you are not coexisting with Exchange Server 5.5, but are creating your Exchange organization using Exchange 2000, you can design and deploy an administrative group structure that works with your administrative model The administrative group structure should be deployed before the first Exchange 2000 server is installed You can build your administrative group model by performing the following tasks:
1 Run /forestprep to establish the organization and prepare the Active
If you do not use this process to create an administrative group before the first Exchange 2000 server is installed, Setup will automatically create an
administrative group named First Administrative Group The first computer
running Exchange 2000 that you install will be placed in this group After the first server has been installed, you can create additional administrative groups into which you can install subsequent computers running Exchange 2000
Topic Objective
To identify the default
administration group and
routing group into which a
server running Exchange
2000 will be installed
Lead-in
The first server running
Exchange 2000 will be
installed into the default
administrative and routing
groups
Trang 22You cannot move computers running Exchange 2000 between administrative groups Therefore, it is important to install each Exchange 2000 server in the administrative group specified in your Exchange 2000
implementation plan
Routing Groups
During setup, Exchange automatically creates a default routing group named
First Routing Group in the first administrative group The first computer
running Exchange 2000 that you install will be a member of this routing group After Exchange installs the first server, you can create more routing groups and install subsequent computers running Exchange 2000 into these routing groups during setup
You can move a computer running Exchange 2000 between routing groups any time as long as the routing groups are within the same administrative group However, you can move a computer running Exchange 2000 between routing groups only when Exchange 2000 is running in native mode
