New Exchange System Manager Features

Internet Mail Wizard

From Exchange 2003’s System Manager console, right-click on your Organization and choose "Internet Mail Wizard" option to set up the server for Internet Mail

Real-Time Black Lists; Inbound SMTP Recipient Filtering for Individual Users; Inbound SMTP Recipient Filtering for Users in the Directory

Right-click on Message Delivery in Exchange System Manager, under Global Settings and pull up Properties

Notice three new tabs here:

„ Sender Filtering

„ Connection Filtering

„ Recipient Filtering

Mobile Services

Under Global Settings, right-click on Mobile Services and pull up Properties:

Note that right-clicking on Mobile Services also allows you to create a new Mobile Carrier:

New Details and Address templates

New templates are: Bulgarian, Catalan, Estonian, Latvian, Lithuanian and Serbian

In Exchange System Manager, under Recipients, click on Details Templates and Address Templates to see new language templates

Ability to add SMTP addresses to mixed Administrative Group policy

View Properties of any mixed Administrative Group (site) policy in Exchange System Manager (those policies will always have the highest priority and a filter based on legacyExchangeDN) On E-mail Addresses tab, the New button

is available and additional SMTP addresses can be added:

Exchange 2003 Standard Server can be made a Front End server

Pull up Properties of the Exchange 2003 standard server in Exchange System Manager On the General tab, notice the “This is a front-end server” checkbox:

New Diagnostics

Servers container - there are more details for servers

Under the Administrative Group, select the Servers container and view additional information about servers in the right pane:

Mailboxes object - more details on Logons

Under the Mailbox Store object in Exchange System Manager, click on Logons

In the right pane, you will see more detailed information about accounts that have logged on to mailboxes Additional fields can be viewed by going to View

Server properties - can change the tracking log file path

Right-click and pull up properties of Exchange 2003 in Exchange System Manager The General tab shows the path to message tracking logs:

Additional Diagnostics Logging available on server object

Open the Properties of Exchange 2003 server object in Exchange System Manager, and select the Diagnostics Logging tab

Public Folder referrals tab on server properties

Open the Properties of Exchange 2003 server object in Exchange System Manager select the Public Folder Referrals tab:

Queue Viewer entirely replaced

Under Server in Exchange System Manager, click on Queues

New Queue Types are exposed, creating a much cleaner view of all queues created on the server You can disable outbound mail and search for messages from here, as well as change the refresh rate for queue viewer:

Creation of Recovery Storage Group in Exchange System Manager

Right-click on the Exchange 2003 server object in Exchange System Manager

and choose New, Recovery Storage Group:

Database tab of the store shows time and type of last backup

To view Properties of a Mailbox or Public folder stored in Exchange System Manager (under the Storage Group), go to the Database tab:

Public Folder Store and Public Folder Tree

Send hierarchy to other servers

Right-click on the Public Folder store or Public Folder tree itself and choose the Send Hierarchy option Choose the source and destination servers that the hierarchy should be sent to and specify the number of days of hierarchy that should be sent

Ability to send content of Public Folder to other servers on demand

In Exchange System Manager, expand the Public Folder tree and right-click on any public folder Choose the Send Contents option under the All Tasks menu:

View the Properties of folders under the Public Folder tree There are new tabs

Exchange HTTP Virtual Server

In Exchange System Manager, under the Server object, expand the Protocols container and then HTTP and select Exchange Virtual Server Microsoft-Server-ActiveSync and Outlook Mobile Access are new virtual directories

Ability to configure Forms-based authentication

In Exchange System Manager, pull up the properties of the Exchange Virtual Server object itself On the Settings tab, you can enable Forms-based

authentication and – if that is enabled – the compression mode:

New General tab for Exchange Virtual Directory under HTTP virtual server and new Authentication method

In Exchange System Manager, under the Server object, expand the Protocols container and then HTTP and select Exchange Virtual Server Pull up the properties of Exchange Virtual Directory

On the Access tab, click the Authentication button:

Under Server Protocols, expand SMTP and pull up the properties of SMTP Virtual Server Go to the Messages tab

Mailbox

Mailbox Recovery Center in Exchange System Manager

Expand Tools in Exchange System Manager Mailbox stores can be added by right-clicking on Mailbox Recovery Center

Exchange tasks on mailboxes from Exchange System Manager

Click on Mailboxes object under the mailbox store Select one or multiple mailboxes in the right pane, right-click and run Exchange Tasks

Completely rewritten Move Mailbox wizard

Run Exchange tasks on mailboxes either from Exchange System Manager or Active Directory Users and Computers and choose Move Mailbox

Some of new features include multithreaded move, scheduling of mailbox move, and reporting

Improved Exchange Features tab in user’s properties

Pull up the properties of a user that has a mailbox on Exchange Server 2003 using Active Directory Users and Computers Select the Exchange Features tab

Configure Exchange Features task

Run Exchange Task Wizard on mailboxes either from Exchange System Manager or Active Directory Users and Computers and choose Configure Exchange Features

Ability to create the InterOrgPerson object in Active Directory

In Active Directory Users and Computers, right-click on an organizational unit (OU) and choose New, and then InterOrgPerson:

Creation of Query-based Distribution groups in Active Directory

In Active Directory Users and Computers, right-click on an OU and choose New, and then Query-based Distribution Group:

Distribution Groups can be “locked down” for Authenticated users only

From the Properties of the Distribution Group in Active Directory Users and Computers select the Exchange General tab:

All Exchange tabs are visible by default

In Active Directory Users and Computers, bring up the Properties of a user that has Exchange mailbox Note that all Exchange tabs are visible even though Advanced Mode is not turned on for the Exchange management snap-in (selecting View and then Advanced Features is not needed):
