Introduction
This document has been compiled primarily to detail the KRONE PremisNET C3
Solution for the structured cabling of Intelligent Buildings Telecommunicationshave already adopted this concept as part of the building’s infrastructure forvoice and data This is one of the major reasons why buildings are thought of
as being dynamic
Telecommunications is more than just voice and data Telecommunicationstakes in many other building systems including Climate Control for heating, ventilation, and air conditioning, Lighting Management for increasing efficiencycosts, Security for access control, surveillance and intruder alert monitoring, and Audio for public address
Indeed telecommunications can carry all low voltage signal systems that
control information within the intelligent Building and the KRONE PremisNET C3
Solution can Control, Command, Communicate, and consolidate all theseindividual building systems
During the life of a building, additions and changes have become more the rulethan the exception The traditional method of proprietary cabling that supportsindividual building systems, can no longer support the increasing demands put
on to the building owners by the occupants The KRONE PremisNET C3 Solutionaddresses this problem in a positive way The Intelligent building cableinfrastructure can be future proof designed and installed to benefit everyone
This document includes the planning, design and implementation process of
the KRONE PremisNET C3 Solution Firstly however a brief overview will bepresented outlining and defining some of the generic Communication, BuildingAutomation, and Security system architectures and the terms and productscommonly used in the industry today

1.0 GENERIC CABLING DESIGN
1.1 Communications Systems Cabling Design:
The communications standards define the minimum structure to deliver voiceand data services to the desktop in accordance with the above standards
This standard dissects cabling into the following major elements:
-Work Area
-Horizontal Cabling and the Consolidation Point
-Floor Distribution System within a Telecommunications Enclosure
This can be incorporated into a horizontal cabling design where cabling density
is significant or where excessive configuration management activities arerequired due to staff or equipment movements This element can be comparedwith the final distribution point or FDP used in block cabling distribution forvoice services
This approach is developing acceptance across the market but there are fewvendors that offer a range of consolidation point solutions that are includedwithin the vendor certification process This item will be highlighted in the nextsection and may become a pivotal element in the overall generic cablingdesign for the intelligent building
1.1.1Cabling Medium
Cabling medium used by the communications industry include:
-Unshielded Twisted Pair (Copper)
-Optical Fibre (62.5/125 um or 50/125um )

1.2 Building Management Systems:
1.2.1Background:
Building Management Systems (BMS) products, like most technology products, had their development enhanced through the US space race of the 1960’s Wesaw in the early 70’s, building management system manufacturers developproducts to be used in ‘centralised’ computer system architecture
Centralised control systems deliver functionality and depend on userconnectivity through the horizontal and backbone sub systems to one locationwhere all equipment is centralised These systems were developed withproduct specialists and technology experts in mind and were far from userfriendly to the building owner or tenant They required highly skilled operators
to gain the product efficiencies and functionality specified by thesemanufacturers
With the building owner and tenant demanding high speed, high capacityinformation processing, increased functionality from the product and increasedfocus on reliability and disaster recovery, we have seen the move in the early80’s to distributed processing environments A distributed control systemspreads its active devices and intelligence throughout the facility
Cabling designers need to be aware of the differences between these systems
Today, these two options in centralised and distributed control systems stillremain
In the first instance, these building management systems operated on lowspeed dedicated 4.8Kor 9.6Kbps proprietary communication buses Laterreleases saw these building management systems operating over higher speedand bandwidth network architectures such as the 2.5 Mbps ArcNet system
Today, with the move to internationally driven Open Standard (Seven-LayerNetwork model) by the International Standards Organisation (ISO) asrepresented by the Open Systems Forum (OSF), has seen the move towardinteroperability onto today’s minimum network standard, 10Mbps Ethernet.Figure 2 located on page 4 of this document shows the traditional buildingblocks and the installation bus topology

1.2.2 Building Management Systems, Service Applications
The main service applications that make up an integrated buildingmanagement system includes:
Climate Control
-Heating, Ventilation & Air Conditioning Systems (HVAC).Automation of these systems require central plant controllers andIndividual room or zone controllers
Lighting Control:
-Intelligent Lighting Controller (ILC)
Public Address System:
-Smart PA Systems provide interface/integration with variousbuilding systems such as Telephony System, or providebackground mood music or interface with emergency controlsystems such as Fire and Security to improve evacuationprocedures

2.1 Introduction
The KRONE PremisNET C3 Solution uses multiple Floor Distributors strategicallyplaced onto each floor to capture all Building Management System (BMS)Service Applications
This option employs fixed wiring and provides added flexibility to connect anddisconnect at the Application and Backbone Service Connection Point of thesestrategic Floor Distributor panels This solution enables common delivery ofcabling whilst ensuring connectivity and segregated management of wiringwith respect to the voice and data cabling management solution Therefore itpresents a solution to cover any and all Service Applications requiringstandards based connectivity and most applications requiring proprietaryconnectivity
The following sections will work through each of the main BMS ServiceApplications listed in section 2.2, detailing and defining the approach toconnectivity of these systems Before detailing these connectivity solutions it isnecessary to define the process or steps which should be followed beforemoving forward with the final cabling design
2.2 Planning Considerations
STEP-1 Identify locations of all of the Telecommunications and Control
Devices including their associated end devices
The quantities and locations of these elements shall be defined and updatedonto a communications layer of an architectural drawing All applicationsincluding voice and data should be included in this design This informationcan be obtained from relevant specifiers, such as the communicationsconsultant; the building services consultant, architect, building owner andothers involved in the design process Power distribution solution should also
be considered when defining the complete requirements
Telecommunications devices here includes, (but not limited to):
Voice and Data outlets
LAN and Telephone devices include: PABX, Handsets, Hubs, and Routers
Control Devices here includes, (but not limited to):
Application Specific Controllers,
-Central Plant Controllers
-Individual Room or Zone Controllers
-General Purpose Controllers
-Master Security Alarm and Slave Panels, remote arming stations
Trang 12KRONE PrmisNET C3 Solution 23
Various multiplexers, switchers and mixers for Public Address and Securityrequirements
Network Control Modules
Operator Workstations
End devices include:
-Temperature Sensors
-Active Sensors and Transducers
-Air Conditioning Sensors
-Motor Control devices
-Security Sensors
-Security Beams
-Security Reed Switches/contacts
-Camera’s, including pan tilt zoom functions
-Speakers and zoning
STEP-2 Determine the best location for Floor Distributors and Building
Distributors and develop backbone and horizontal cabling distributiondesign
This activity will impact the overall cost of cabling and cabling supportinfrastructure requiring both labour and materials
The architects or building owner will generally incorporate a maincommunications room and service room or zone for the establishment of amanaged communications environment
Sufficient space (both wall and floor) shall be allowed for the cablingmanagement frames and cabinets
Trang 13KRONE PrmisNET C3 Solution 23
This activity should be carried out with knowledge of all cabling risers, penetrations and any architectural constraints of the building and inconjunction with cabling rules that meet system manufacturer requirements
The overall requirements for Floor Distributors will be determined following thedevelopment of an accepted zoning methodology This will be based on finaland agreed location of Distributed Architecture Intelligent Devices Once thedecision is made to implement a fully structured environment then the BuildingServices Consultants may assist in specifying a general area for the majority ofthe intelligent control devices
STEP-3 Determine Cable Medium requirements
The cabling medium considered as standard for voice and data applicationsinclude:
62.5/125 or 50/125um Fibre multi-mode Fibre cable
Single Mode Fibre Cable
Enhanced Category 5 ( Cat.5e ) multi pair copper cable
The cabling used for the Control Wiring will be defined within each applicationsolution detailed below However as a general guideline the intent will be tominimise the cabling types used to 3 cables These being
Fibre (where appropriate)
4 pair Enhanced Category 5 ( Cat.5e ) Unshielded Twisted Pair (UTP)
and Figure 8 (FIG 8) or equivalent for Extra Low Voltage (ELV) power andPublic Address backbone cabling requirements
STEP-4 Installation
A KRONE endorsed/certified installer would then proceed to install the cablingrequirements Regular discussions with the Service Application Provider andsite co-ordinator will ensure correct location of cables with cable pairterminations on allocated modules and connection boxes

The KRONE PremisNET C3 Solution has adopted a tiered hierarchy structure tosimplify the understanding of the cabling hierarchy The cabling requirementsfor these systems will in general be divided into three tiers of cabling We willcall these:
TIER 1: Management Systems Connectivity (Application Services)
TIER 2:Distributed Architecture Intelligent Device Connectivity (Backbone
Services)TIER 3: Sensor or End Device Connectivity (Horizontal Services)

TIER 1-Management Systems Connectivity
Management Systems address the Facility management, Operatormanagement and Network management modules, which are typical of theNetwork Controller devices seen in today’s Control System configurations. These devices shall be connected utilising multiple 4 pair Enhanced Category 5( Cat.5e ) cable to wall outlets, star configured from within a centrallydesignated facility managed environment A horizontal cable distancelimitation of 90m from Central Hub applies These services shall be connected
to the Horizontal Service Connection Point on the Floor Distributor andjumpered to the appropriate Connection Point for end to end connectivity
Because some Operator Workstations may require a remote location from thecentral management area, it may be necessary to run through the BackboneService Connection Point to achieve this
Application Services:
The Application Service Connection Point will enable connectivity of ApplicationSpecific Controller (ASC) Input/Output (I.O) relay contacts to perform addedfunctions from these devices
TIER 2-Distributed Architecture Intelligent Device Connectivity
Backbone Service cabling provides connectivity though KRONE’s Building/FloorDistributors to remote Application Specific Controllers located throughout thebuilding These intelligent controllers will be star connected (logical bus) back
to the nearest KRONE Floor Distributor and terminated onto the ApplicationService Connection Point All Floor Distributors will be star configured to theBuilding Distributor (master panel)
As a design rule it is suggested that 6 by 4 pair Enhanced Category 5 ( Cat.5e )cables be installed in the Backbone Service to each Floor Distributor to achieve
a balance of meeting today’s connectivity needs with a level of future proofingfor adds moves and changes of tomorrow
A maximum cabling distance for TIER 2 cabling will apply Whilst it variesslightly between manufacturers equipment it is generally in the order of1500m When connected as a physical star and logical bus the real distancebetween devices is limited The number of intelligent devices connected toeach logical bus is also limited and dependent upon manufacturer (From 32and up to 50 units) This will be clarified in the Application Service Provider’sspecifications
Should a requirement exist to interconnect devices between Floor Distributorsthen cabling between Backbone Service Connection Points of each FloorDistributor and jumpering to Application Service Connection Points orHorizontal Service Connection Points within the specific Floor Distributor will
Trang 17KRONE PrmisNET C3 Solution 23
achieve this This option is not the preferred approach as it provides a
mesh-based saturation cabling system, which is costly to manage
Backbone Services:
The Backbone Service will enable the TIER 2 elements to be connected to theNetwork Controller The Backbone Connection Points of Floor Distributors willenable this connectivity using multiple 4 pair Enhanced Category 5 ( Cat.5e )cables
TIER 3 End Device Connectivity
TIER 3 cabling covers the end device cabling requirements The list of enddevices such as temperature sensors, security sensors and speakers arecovered in section 2.2, STEP 1, Planning Considerations Each end device willutilise individual 4 pair Enhanced Category 5 ( Cat.5e ) cables fed back to thenearest Floor Distributor Horizontal Connection Point These services will beeither jumpered to an Application Service Connection Point or a BackboneService Connection Point dependent on the functions required by thespecification or systems supplier The 90 metre distance limitations as defined
by ISO 11801, will apply to Horizontal Services connected to each FloorDistributor
Any Input/Output functions provided by the intelligent controller would bejumpered between the Horizontal and Application Connection Points
As a rule of thumb it is suggested that a floor area be divided into three or fourdistribution zones and with typical floor areas having an area of 2000m2 it issuggested that these zones cover up to 650-700m2 each
The diagrams in section 3.0 depict high-level connectivity, the detailedjumpering approach, connectivity to multiple Application Specific Controller(ASC) devices from one Floor Distributor and specific pair utilisation whenconnecting these devices as a bus
Exact pair requirements will depend on the individual devices, 4pr cablesconnecting these devices will be used for communications and other requiredfunctions As a convention the first pair should be reserved for the maincommunications feed between TIER 1 and TIER 2 devices
Horizontal Services:
Sensors and end devices will be connected with Enhanced Category 5 ( Cat.5e )4pr cables wired back to the nearest Floor Distributor Horizontal ServiceConnection Points It will cover all TIER 3 elements Where necessary thesecables shall include approved connection boxes for termination points ofstranded conductor tails to the end devices
Trang 18KRONE PrmisNET C3 Solution 23
Cabling Medium:
The cabling used for the Control Wiring is detailed as follows:
Fibre (where appropriate)

and Figure 8 or equivalent for ELV power
2.3.1 PremisNET C3 Building and Floor Distributor
Fig 4: PremisNET C3 Building and Floor Distributor
Connection Point Layout
The Building Distributor provides the interface to all TIER cabling The BuildingDistributor (master panel) provides TIER 2 Backbone Service connectivity andalso interfaces to TIER 1 management services and local TIER 3 end devices.Floor Distributors provide TIER 3 interconnectivity to end devices and providesconnectivity for TIER 2 Backbone Service interface
Trang 19KRONE PrmisNET C3 Solution 23
The Building Distributor panel is physically identical to the Floor Distributorpanel It is the location and utilisation of the Distributor panel that determinesits identification as a Building or Floor Distributor There should only be oneBuilding Distributor panel in each building, however there can be multiple FloorDistributors on each building level
2.3.2 PremisNET C3 Labelling standard
The labeling and record keeping of connections in any wired installation is very
important for its maintenance, additions and changes The Krone PremisNET C3
Solution for structured cabling of intelligent buildings is no exception Theintegration of so many individual service applications, traditionally dependant
on proprietary wiring systems, has made the
PremisNET C3 labeling standard an integral part of the over all structuredcabling system
2.3.2.1 Colour Code:
To enable quick identification of services the PremisNET C3 Solutionincorporates the following colour coded solution Colour labels will be applieddirectly to the blocks via a hinged label holder The naming convention will beapplied over the correct colour coded label of the individual ServiceApplication
