A Objective: By the end of the lesson, Ss will be able to use 'should/ shouldn't to

express advice and ‘have to’ to express obligation or necessity

C Procedure :

I Warm up: Revision of the previous lesson:

- Ask the Ss to make sentences to say if they have these in Da Nang or Viet Nam, using any of the expressions they learnt in the previous lesson

1 Giving presents at Christmas

2 Wearing ao dai on special occasions

3 Having fireworks on New Year’s Eve

4 Saying hello to strangers

5 Sweeping the streets on Saturday mornings

6 Decorating the house on special occasions

7 Making banh chung or banh tet for Tet

8 Going to the pagoda on the first day of the New Year

9 Hanging out with friends at weekends

- Design this activity as Noughts and Crosses

II New lesson:

GRAMMAR :

I Should and Shouldn’t: Review

1 Presentation:

- Remind the Ss of the structure with ‘should' and

'shouldn’t’ and the use:

S + should/ shouldn't + V (bare infinitive)

To express advice

e.g.: You should respect old people

You shouldn't stay up too late

- Ss copy the note

2 Practice:

* Ex 1 P 41: Completing:

- Ss work individually to do the task

- Ask the Ss to look at the pictures and quickly describe

what they see

- Have them complete the sentences and then compare the

answers a partner

 Feedback: Ss read the complete sentences Confirm the

correct answers

* Answer key:

- Ask the Ss to match the situations in A and the advice in

II Have to :

1 Presentation:

- Elicit the form and use of have to by some examples:

e.g.: At our school, we have to wear a uniform

When the traffic lights are red, you have to stop

- Explain the form and use of have to:

(+) S + have to + V (bare infinitive)

 To express obligation or necessity.

(-) S + don't/ doesn't have to + V (bare inf.)

(?) Do/ Does + S + have to + V (bare inf.)?

- Have the Ss pay attention to the differences between

‘have to’ and 'must':

In writing there is no real difference between have to and

must In speech there is a small difference:

+ have to  external obligation, i.e someone else makes a

decision about what you do

+ must  internal obligation, i.e you make a decision about

what you do

- Have the Ss read the Remember box and make sure they

understand it clearly

2 Practice:

*Ex 3 P 42

- Ask the Ss to do ex 3 individually and then compare

their answers with a partner

- Check the Ss' answers and confirm the correct ones
