Trong các câu này các động từ to work, to do là các động từ chính để diễn tả hành động trong câu còn am, is và -ing được dùng để diễn tả sự tiếp diễn, lúc này am, is không có nghĩa bình thường là thì, là, ở
Trong trường hợp câu có động từ chính là to be (để diễn tả nghĩa thì, là, ở) khi viết ở thì hiện tại tiếp diễn ta vẫn phải thêm động từ to be và thêm -ing ở động từ chính bằng cách viết thành being.
